Just a little email I got from Jeremy at FFG:
-------------------------------------------------------------
Before making any official announcements, we are going to wait until we
better understand WOTC's plans for 4th Edition.  We are working on "Veil
of Shadow" book for early 2008, and are still planning on new releases
after that.  In what form they will be, we don't know as of yet.

Sounds like they are making Veil of Shadow, and then don't really know what to do.

Really, I love Midnight, but maybe something non-MN would be a good idea soon? There's only that many sourcebooks you can make before cluttering up a campaign setting too much. In my opinion, anyway.

I agree.

They do have Anima coming right now don't they?

Too bad they can't convert Midnight to Anima, that way it's "their" world and "their" system.
I guess they could do it, but I don't know if Midnight would suite an Animish system - just wouldn't feel right.

Of course, they could (should?) make their own Midnight Campaign Setting + Player's Handbook using the Anima rules, that may work (that way the PHB would have all Midnightish art in it and feel to it)...

If they make their own rules system for MN, I really hope they make something less superpowered than a conversion of the Anima system. As for the PHB and its feel, well, you don't really need it, do you. There's lots of D20 SRDs available out there for free.

Me, I just re-discovered a Swedish RPG system that might be suitable. Swedes make good RPGs. Too bad they're all in Swedish.

This belongs in news! Also, I think it can benefit from 4th edition somehow, though it would be troublesome because they would probably have to release yet another setting book, or just make a players guide with mostly rules stuff. I hope they don't go to a whole new system, more often than not, they fail to impress me.

Wow, I made the front page, thanks Nif!

Yeah, I don't think it would be a good idea to move to D&D 4th Edition, I think it may be best if they move the line to something else, though I don't think we'll see any movement unless the Midnight Chronicles movie really takes off.

Why more sourcebooks?  Why not a new adventure path?  Heck, even if it was online only, in PDF format, without lots of graphics, some scenarios to follow the end of Crown of Shadow would be really useful.  That's one thing the setting really lacks.

Frankly, for adventures, I don't care about hardcovers, or colour printing, or even lots of nice pictures.  Adventures will typically be run once in a campaign, and don't need the same standard of quality, with respect to appearance etc. that regular sourcebooks get.

Well, given that Midnight sourcebooks traditionally haven't been in colour hardbacks... Wink

Well.....there's the colour pages at the start of the hardcover...yeah, that's it. Smiley

You're right though....that observation is more applicable to WotC adventures.

I still would love to see more Midnight adventures, though.  Even if they were only available as PDF products, it would still help.

It constantly amazes me (any my friends) that Midnight is 17 (soon to be 18) books strong and has only ONE adventure.

Yhea, great... It's a testament for how great a setting Midnight is. But goddamnit I want adventures!... i'll even settle for some short advenures (some 2-3 level advancement).

Have to agree on the adventure sentiment. Crown of Shadows is great, but its a 3.5e setting that is quite difficult to convert other adventures to given its very distinctive atmosphere.

I'm going to have a go at converting Forge of Fury for a post crown adventure. Any other adventures that are mainstream available (from any edition of d&d) that people would recommend as a drop in?

Veil was supposed to be the next Midnight supplement specifically dealing with the Veil and its effects on Aryth. There were to be sections dealing with the early days of the world, as well as rules and magic options molded around the magic of the Veil, undead and monsters that were Veil-related...etc. Eric (Kane) and I (Alwyn) contributed a small amount of material to the project, but things didn't progress after our early efforts; to the best of our knowledge the project was shelved, or at least put on semi-permanent hold, once Wizards announced their plans for 4th Edition.

Seeing as we have heard nothing about the future of the line since, I would assume it won't see the light of day. But, that's just my take.

And I can't say I miss the book, it would probably be on the same line of more crunch than fluff that FFG was later into the line, despite the great work of you guys rules are just not what Midnight seems to have in its favour to have this fan base. Wink
