Another installment on the D&D 4th edition rumours and thoughts, Ryan Dancey gives his thoughts on what WotC would do for a new designer release and abother revision release. If you use that alongside his 2007 predictions for the gaming industry you will bear with me that the Winter Fantasy convention, now named D&D Experience convention will be where all our fears or hopes come true, it is going to be held on the 15th-18th of February.

Hooray for the gaming industry!

Actually my only concern for the industry in 2007 is how Destiny and GWs new WH40KRPG will turn out. I can live with the big companies moving towards what Ryan predicts, and I probably won't be touching 4th D&D for at least a few years after it's release anyway.

My concerns are Destiny and the future supplements and that is about it. Wink

Sure, if my memories are good, Black Industries is working on it for several months now.

They've even postponed the publishing a few months to weed away problems before they publish it. (and I'm guessin the fact that the books will come out close to next christmass is just a coincidence ;P).

Black industires have been doing some pretty decent stuff lately. The new version of WHFRPG is actually rather enjoyable, which is more than you could say for the old system. The setting is still superb too.

As far as WOTc and 4th ed go I have to say for my own part it is very unlikely that despite having been a follower of D&D, AD&D since 1980 that I will shell out MORE cash for another edition..especially when the aim seems to be towards taking it ever and ever closer to Tabletop wargaming and not pen and paper roleplaying.

Seems to me other companies with other systems will once again be getting my money.  Pity but I guess that's what happens when a Toy company gets hold of something like a roleplay even if some of thier head people "were" roleplayers.  It inevitably ends up devolved into something simplistic, unrecopgnisable, and more tenable to a "younger" audience who have never had experience with other games and thus a means for comparison with regard to what is being offered to them.  Which of course means losing its appeal to its actual and faithful audience, the people who have bought and supported the hobby and its game for years and the people who have mad the various successes, successes by being the ones to shell out thier cash and shwo thier continued support Sad  once again those people.. "us" get the rough end of the stick.

I will however be looking forward to BI's new WH40k RPG..though the Inquisition isnt an area of particular interest to me, i'll be more interested in the Space Marine and Eldar related sourcebooks for some proper "potent" intergalactic goodness.

"Children of the horned rat" and the book for the border princes released for WHFRPG seem to indicate that they're targeting a wide variety of styles within the setting. If they do the same for the 40K system I'm sure we'll see supplements that adress many possible styles of play in the 40K universe, not only inqusition, which would be great.

Dark Heresy is just the beginning, however. After this basic game, two further games released eighteen months apart will allow the players to progress and explore the universe first as Rogue Traders and alien pirates, and eventually experienced players will be able to roleplay the devastating warriors of the Adeptus Astartes Deathwatch.
Oh,y eah, they're definetly branching put ot cover non-inquisition stuff, I'm looking forward to the rogue-trader book.
