Is it possible to change this? I know it's a minor thing, but there should be another way of showing how much the board appreciates a certain member.

We have defined it last night (myself, Todd and Drigible), we want Spell Energy to be praises made for good content posted for teh resistance, elves, dwarves or otherwise against the shadow, and tain is for the ones posted in favor of the shadow. Overall they will kind of give your posting alignment (shadow or against it), nothing more, but we are really open to sugestions.

For evryone else, the original idea is that we have a single pool where positives are praises and negatives are displeasures to a poster, we do not really want to ahve this be a poster feeling, but rather, a poster feedback from those who read.

In all cases you cannot change or have your pool changed before you reach 25 posts, so you have been around for sometime.

Sounds ok to me, but I think we should have a good/bad poster function instead, maybe.

I don't like rating posters myself, I don't se it making any good, specially here, having people boost your spell energy or taint will be a way of showing their apreciation for your particiption on the site. users will end up with good pools according to the content they post and how others value that.

And I don't think there are bad posters, but bad psts, those can be reported to a moderator through a link under each post, we would then take care of the bad post as quickly as possible. Rating people is more prone to lead to flame wars than rating the resistance/shadow content they post, if they do not past content, tehy will simply keep their pool at +0/-0, that is all.

True. Ok, but I don't think we need one good and one evil rating. One for general creativity and goodness should do it.

EDIT: New users will probably see the Taint score as a negative one, too.

We can not disable one axis, we either have one that pools all the ratings, good and bad,or we display them separetly and give them different names. Even though it is a neat thing it is somewhat limited in what we may make it display.

And we can add this to the site FAQ as well.

Edit: The links to increase either one are not turned on yet, they still need a name, they show up just behind the Spell Energy / Taint line and should describe which one they are increasing. Any thoughts?

It is too large, the space simply isn't going to work with that much words, we would ahve to aim for 1 word, maybe 22, but they beter not be too large. we can't have a question too. It would ahve to be something like:

+ energy and + taint, we would then have the guidelines for what they mean on the site FAq and the Meta forum.

That seems to work.  Or maybe having underneant "Good?" "Evil?"

I think either of those systems would be fine, as long as it's sufficently explained in the FAQ.

God and Evil might be perfect indeed! The other names may still see change though, I think theya re good, but I am certain they can be better.

We are working on a site rules and guideliines and tehn a FAq will come next, we can mail people upon registration, so we can send them that info

Added the names for the increases as +good and + evil. I will mmake this into the site FAQ and when we have most of the site sorted out it will also be inside a news item that will be sent to the front page.

It is active, anyone with mroe than 25 posts can see the links for other users and boost their spell energy/ taint, you can do that once an hour, so choose well.

And yes, smeagol's post is shrinking and for my sign and profile, it happened because once you get abck to your profile things get messed up and you must fix it, probably an unintended bug, gonna report it to the SMF developers. Fixinf it right now.

Is there a way we can change people's SE/taint becuase of their site features articles?  I guess we can just add the click to some random post of theirs, right?

Well, if you like someone's work you can find a post by him or just browse the memberlist (click on the number of registered users on the forum index).

Yes, I wasn't sure if there was a trace back to the article the mark was given for, or if it was just a general grade.  If the latter, then I guess it doesn't matter which article we give them points for.

There isn't a tracer at all, so you can just boost and people will not even know who was that gave you a point, of course you may PM the one you boosted, just for a thumbs up.

Instead of Spell Energy (since this doesn't directly relate to "helping the good side") you might consider using:
Resistance
or maybe Fame.

but Resistance seems to be a better opposite for Taint...

Spell Energy is the channeler's link to Aryth and how much he can tap into before getting into his own life force, Taint is exactly that tie a channeler can ahve with Izrador's corruptive influence. I think there could be other choices, btu soem are very speciifc or too wordy (Whisper Awareness / Taint) and it is not that we are happy with what we have now, just lacking a better one, resistance simply doe not tell.

Maybe Attunement / Taint, but then attuned to what is what people would think.

I think I got a good idea now: Hope / Taint, it is simple straight and clean.
