Hi folks,

Just tooting my own horn and letting you know I've finally caught up on all of the prestige classes at Darkness Falls. Next I have to work on the Shadow races, the legate class, weapons and equipment, and other various and sundry items. PLUS I'm experimenting with a new layout; specifically, a side menu and top nav bar on every page. It's not ready yet so you won't see visible changes yet.

I've put off adding any type on monster entries, mainly because it would negate the need for anyone to pick up Minions of Shadow, putting less coin in FFG's pocket and lessening the possibility of continuing the line due to lower profits. Any opinions here as to what I should do? I'm thinking I should at least include the astirax.

Yeah, I'd not include the stats from Minions of Shadow, no matter how helpful it might be. I think the Astirax would be acceptable though.

Just my opinion Smiley

Well, there could be another way... just include the names and a short description of the monsters to make people curious and eager to buy this great book. Like for Razor ... i like them!  Cool

LD, you get a cookie for continuing to host and updating what is easily the best MN site along with AtS.

I agree that posting all the open content from MoS would obsolete the book, so you probably shouldn't do that. However, if you're including the Astirax, you should post the legate as well.

I uploaded a couple of sample pages with the new menu styles for comment/critique. The only buttons that actually work right now are HOME and CHARACTER, just so that you can see how the new interface will display. Heroic path links actually do work but the files themselves are not using the new layout.

Let me know what your think.

The bright yellow and blue boxes that pop up when you hover above a link doesn't match very well with the current color scheme, but I guess it's just a placeholder. This is certainly very practical. I like it better than the current system of menus.
You could use a non-flattened version of the banner on the "home" page, but have the narrow one on all the content pages, so visitors got to see the original.

I actually never really liked the use of a cross in the banner, and even less so a flattened cross. It's not that I'm religious (I'm not, and it doesn't matter anyway) but crosses and burials aren't really normal in Midnight.

That said, have a cookie!

I like the colors and the feel of the picture, a setting sun and a graveyard, but the crosses feel a little out of place.

Thanks for the input guys. You are correct, the hover colors are placeholders for now; I've changed it in the top nav bar so that now instead of color you see the small "M" logo from Midnight. It's not quite right yet, but better.

Other changes...
  • The "What's New" link sends you to a list of all the updates I've made this year, most recent at the top.
  • Clicking on any top nav button brings you to the "main" page for that section. Only Home and Character have real links, the rest send you to a 404 (too lazy to fix for a mock-up).
  • Clicking the masthead logo from any page will always bring you to the welcome screen.

Regarding the masthead image...I've always liked the colors too, but I don't see the crosses as bearing any religious connotations. I see them as symbols of death, and therefore appropriate for the atmosphere Midnight evokes. However, I am on the lookout for other things I could put up there. I'm no artist, so I'll dig around for stuff. In the meantime I think the current image is pretty suitable.

Have you tried contacting any of the copyright-holders for the illustrations from the books? As RPGs go the midnight line has good illustrations, if you were allowed to use any of it they would all fit the theme.

The hover-"M" is going to look great once you get everything in order.

Just pick an image from the books  and use stating it is copyright FFG, used without authorization, you don't claim it as yours, you give the author and the copyright holder credit you will be fine, if they ask you to take it out, very unlikely, then you do so. There are far worse violations of FFG's rights in the site anyway.

Midnight name and logo, those are surely a greater problem. And for one thing, i never actually liked the whole site setup, and i don't like the new one too, i consider that in this kind of site all information should be found at most at 3 clicks away, you don't have that much thing to call for a string of menus anyway.

And navigation menus should take you back to the home and index at all times. Besides having two navigation menus that work with one another is a bad thing, imo, i would rather have a vertical one complete and possibly a top/ bottom one with the hottest picks for that section.

The deed is done, praise be to the Shadow.

It's not perfect, and I'm sure there will be problems found. I have a few other things I want to add, but they weren't important enough to hold off the transition anymore. Hope you like it.
