That's great jscifert!

I'm assuming you play-tested it. So please tell us how does it play? how does it feel? Savage World tends to be more action-y than d20, does it lend well to Midnight?

The beauty of SW, I think, is that it can play very well tabletop for action or with more of an intrigue feel.  I think the conversion works well - certainly some bugs to work on and I am looking at re-working the Heroic Paths a bit, but overall, very satisfied!  Can certainly capture the feel of Midnight!!!

Well we are currently on week four of our Savage Conversion of Midnight and I, for one, like it.  It is far simpler than d20, without be 4th ed.

Channeler casting has been our greatest hurdle and we settled on costs for direct damage spells (Smite, bolt, blast etc) being one point higher than normal.  Originally  we set it at two but it was pointed out to me that spell point progression makes most of those spells prohibitively costly at even Seasoned and Veteran ranks.  The argument can still be made for point costs at 2 points higher since all Channelers have the Soul Drain edge.  We will see how it plays out.

I will be eliminating the Dornish group fighting bonus as it has never been a benefit to any PC in a Midnight game  I have played over the past 5 years.  I will be replacing with a "Stoke Fury" ability that requires that the Dorn gnaw his shield, yell insults, sing a dirge to his fallen ancestors etc and gain a +1 bonus to his  Fighting/Throwing skill for a number of rounds equal to his Vigor attribute score.
Orcs will retain the group fighting bonus.

Sunder should be open to all races, particularly since  every Orc statted up in D20  had the Improved Sunder Feat.

So far that is all we have encountered currently.  I will try to keep up the comments as we delve deeper in to Savage Worlds and  Midnight.

OK, Here is an updated and modified version of the Savage Midnight document.  Big change is that the Heroic paths are now linked to Rank progression as far as benefits gained at each Rank.  I think this translates the "feel" of Midnight better than the original postings.  Thanks for the suggestions, everyone, and I hope you enjoy!  Feedback welcome!

Pardon the necro, but I just wanted to pop in here because this topic is what brought me back here!  I have been planning on doing either a Unisystem or Savage Worlds conversion for some time now, and just haven't had the time, and am PUMPED at this...I have it downloaded and want to get it printed out to get Savage Midnight in the queue for at least one of my friends!

I've recently had the opportunity to peek into the Solomon Kane Savage Worlds book, and thought that the magic system there could be very fitting to Midnight.

In essence, there are no Spell Points. Each spell has a Spell Casting modifier that may be reduced if the caster decides to spend more time casting the spell or perhaps with certain "fetishes".

So a spell could have a "-4" modifier, meaning that you throw your Casting die with the penalty, score a success and your OK. HOWEVER, backlash from failure is much more sever in Solomon Kane, causing the character to loose ability to cast spells for sometime (from rounds to days), gain a boost to spellcasting for sometime, or on a Snake Eyes (Casting Dice AND Wild Dice roll up as 1) loose the ability to cast spells permanently.

Some of these might be too harsh, but i think it can be a nice fit for Midnight, maybe adjust the backlash table a bit.

Of course, i've only had 3 sessions of Pulp Savage Worlds, so it's all theoretical...

WOW!  I've played some Savage Worlds and I really enjoy the system.  Midnight has been my all time favorite setting and I was thinking of dong exactly what you've done jscifert.

I havn't read all of your document yet but I will.  Since your last posting is dated Feb 2009, I was wondering if any comments would be read by you.  So let me know if you are still around and I will be happy to add my 2 cents.

BTW GREAT JOB so far on what I did read.

I just started playing Savage Worlds and am greatly interested in this document.  Any chance this could be formated into a PDF like those Tome of Sorrows books?

Thanks!

I can certainly look into formatting it into a PDF if people are interested.  I still lurk around the boards and if people like what I have cobbled together, then happy to oblige! Hope to get to it soon, after the holidays and all.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Hi jscifert,

Have you done any additional modification to your conversion? Is it still working good and fitting for Midnight?

Thanks,

Seems to work well.  I have made some minor modifications to the races and the Herbalism sections to make them simpler (reference the herbalism rules from Hellfrost, for instance). Other than that, pretty much the same.  Finally have had time after the holiday and work hubub and I have created a single PDF for the file and will try and upload it here now.

As I understand Tired Abilities are to reflect special clasess skills from Midnight, yes? But Heroic Paths you choose on character creation?

Yes, the way I originally had designed the Heroic Paths, you choose one at character creation and gain the benefits.

As for a Midnight SW character sheet, I would LOVE to see one!  Please post if you have a chance or send to me at jscifert@bellsouth.net.

Thanks and glad you like it Smiley

We used Savege Worlds Fantasy Sheet - http://www.naturaltwenty.com/downloads/bw_fantasy_character_sheet.pdf . With slight modification ( adding some corebooks frames, like Izadors symbol ) could be nicly made in to Midnight one. In sparetime I could look if I GIMP something. Wink

Just made a character sheet based on the Shaintar one. Here's a blog post talking about it http://wegetgeek.wordpress.com/2011/08/23/savage-midnight-character-sheet/ . I'll attach the PDF.

OK, everyone!  I have updated the Savage Midnight file a bit to mix better with Savage Worlds Deluxe, streamlining some Edges, abilities, correcting spells references, etc. Am sure there is still plenty of room for improvement, but hopefully this is a more "correct" document Smiley  Enjoy!!
