It could even be about one feet taller, that is for sure, and the idea is really good, but as bleak i don't like the raped dwarven women, I have a hard tiem picturing them actually surviving myself, but i could see strong slaves being sued as pleasure tools by the female giants, specially if the kind has a matriarchal structure, much like upper class women and their pet dogs today. yes, that does happen, more oten than you imagine, and i am not talking about dobbermans or large dogs, something like a poodle is fine there.

I apologize for the sexual topic, but then, Midnight is a lot more mature than standard fantasy tends to be.

He has to be taller in order to qualify for large size.

Why, he would have about the build of an ape, but with shorter arms, from the entry of Ape in the SRD:

An adult male ape is 5-1/2 to 6 feet tall and weighs 300 to 400 pounds.
So 5'6" to 6', sounds about what you intended the giantblooded dwarf to be, yes?

Yes.

How come?  Any game balance  or  background reason?
My thinking is that a giantblooded dwarf's  LARGE  size wouldn't necessarily be because of height but because of general width/girth combined with being a foot or so above average for a Dwarf.
Aren't there monsters or animals that are considered large that aren't tall?

And also aren't giantbloods only considered large after  like  10th level?  I may be mis-remembering that.

thanks

Oh, I don't know, the APE i just mentioned for one, then there's the mimic, the minotaur(more than 7ft, but hey), otyough, ochre jelly, shambling mound(though this one has a wider girth than it has height).

There's no real rule for how big something needs to be to be considered large, but less than 6ft is stretching it, even if it has the width of a dwarf. Some heights for actual large-sized giants are 12 ft (fire giant, this one has a 9ft girth), 10'6"hill giant, 15 ftfrost giant. So you see, 1'taller than dwarves isn't quite enough.

Giantblooded aren't considered large for all purposes at first level no, the character is going to grow(or learn how to take advantage of his size) as he gains levels.

Yeah, I especially like that because it means the character is growing toward Large.  At 1st level, the character fights as though large, for the sake of weapons.  At 10th, he becomes Large.  At 20th his reach extends another 5 feet!!

So my thoughts is, he's just over normal-sized for a dwarf right now.  I'm going to reflext this by using a normal-looking dwarf miniature.

Getting closer to level 10, he's more the size of the (awesome) drawing you just put up.  For that, I'm going to be using a human-sized miniature, and probably alter it some to make it look stouter.

Closer to 20th, he's going to look like a giant that someone squashed!  No one is going to assume that he's normal in anyway.  He'll look like a freak of nature, and probably pitied by some.  RAWK

You should have seen what people said to me when I suggested just that, that the giantblooded character would gain large size at 10th level... I haven't seen one complain on how 2nd edition dealt with the situation, and it is dman close to how i madee it back in 1st edition days.

Really, there are two possible approaches, the size grows as levels come, which is fine unless the levels come in a rather short timeline inside the game, or the dwarf starts nearly large in size, so he would already be the size he had to, but he is not yet used to his own size, he begins with some advantages and as levels come he learns to get more out of his ow size, gaining reach, size bonuses and penalties and then even mroe reach.

Both can work fine, it is a matter of taste and situation.

I re-wrote the giantblooded to suit me and my house rules, but it serves no purpose for people not using them, so I didn't bother with posting it here.
