Midnight Chronicles Cast & Crew Updated!
«
on:
September 30, 2006, 07:27:11 AM »
The
Midnight Chronicles website
has been updated with information on the
cast & crew
of the film, and hopefully TV series. They also present the characters name played by the crew, among which we can only recognize Aradil.
Among the actors we can recognize those presented in the trailer, true, but we also learned that two of them worked on the hilarious
Fear of the Girls
, which seems to be getting a sequel too.
You can also get a little inside information onthe film production from Charles Hubbel''s (one of the leading actors) journal, at his
website
.
Enjoy!

Albert: I'm with you, bro. Let's see him kick some orc ass! Rrraaarrrgh!
Heh.
Anyway, nice to see who's acting. They've even got some people who's faces I've seen before, and that's always cool.
Question though (and this is not meant to be racist, just wondering): What role does a black woman play in a Midnight film? Danisil maybe?

I think she may be sarcosan without much trouble, though it is not my own vision of them, but danisil would be great, i love them.

Yeah, I noticed Nif, I just didn't find quite as good a picture of him.
From what I've understood about the movies setting and plot a Danisil wouldn't really fit in. I mean, there might be some clever way to include one, but my bet is she's either gonna be sarcosan, or perhaps we won't see her face (more than enough room for masked characters in the movie).

See, I only just watched Fear of GIrls for the first time today. Before that, when I looked at the pic of that robust dude, all I could thik was: doesn't he look like solvenly British comedian Johnny Vegas?

Sarcosan.
With all due respect to my American friends and boardmates, if they think
Cliff Curtis
looks
Colombian
AND
Iraqi
, they should buy an African-American woman playing a pseudo-Arab Sarcosan.
I hope Hubbel and Jorgenson don't get typecast as playing characters in D&D-based films, though. I mean, after this, what's left for them? Roles in
Dungeons and Dragons III: Snail's Revenge
?

She can be a halfling too. And they do fit the story whatever it is.
Though dirigible has a point, the misunderstandings and stereotypes in Tv series and movies are endless. And i hope they never actually make a D&D III movie, at least not until they actually get some story to begin with.
edit: fixed the D&D II to III sicne they did make a damn second movie.

I still say we loyal Midnight fans of many years ought to have first dibs as extras or guest characters. I mean- who but us knows best how to play them?

Well, there
is
a genetic link between the Colombians and Iraqis, so why not. (Colombian - Spanish - Moor - Iraqi).
Also, as I'm sure Nif will be happy to agree with me on, there are a lot of cultures and peoples represented in all of Latin America. Hell, I already know an Edgard and a Heidi (German names), a Nelson Brown who doesn't speak English at all, and a Maisera (not sure I'm spelling that right, but it's an Arab name). And those are only examples.
Anyway, back on topic: Ok, possibly Sarcosan, and yes, there are genetic links between Middle Eastern and African people, but the only truly black-ish race in MN is the Danisil. And even they could be Native American instead.

What?
Halflings are black in midnight?!
wow, I didn't know that. Shame on me. This is kinda crazy. I have read lots of midnight stuff, but I managed to miss that.
I'll just blame BK and Albert for not telling me.
Edit: Well, now that I've thought about it it seems familiar, so maybe not so much missed it as read it and completely disregaded it, but still, this was a little shocking to me.
Edit2: Didn't know that about Elflings either.

On another note. I recognize absolutely no name from that list (but that doesn't surprise me), and I'm rather glad to see that most of those actors are stage actors and not TV and Movie actors (no offense intended).

I never liked cross-breeds, so i only rarely take them into account, though Midnight made me like them more than usual i am not that much into the idea.

I can't think of any picture in the MN books were haflings were black. In some they are positively pale, and I can't remember having read that they're supposed to be black either.
It sort of fits that they're not supposed to be white though.

From MN2e pg. 46: "They are almost as dark skinned as the Danisil"
You are right about the drawings, in some they look pale while in others dark. But the descriptive text is specific about that.

Thanks arnon, and while not as dark skinned as the danisil does leave some space it sure does not change them that much, they could be like afro-american descendants compared to native africans, in USA they have nearly the same skin color, mostly because there isn't much mixing between the black and white population. Here in brazil you woudl see all kinds of skin color.
And just so I do reply to it, there isn't much truth in the heritage of colombians and irqaqui touching it other, a lot of colombians have a striong native american blood, and that is what the stereotype colombian should be. But as Bleak said there are many cultures that make themselves present in the american countries, we are the enw world after all, and it is here that all kind of cultures came looking for new opportunities. Though the USA has a somewhat different experience they are not the only place where people came looking for a new life, but in their case gold was not discovered until they were independent and most people who went there in the first palce were looking for a place to make their lives, in msot other countries, including Brazil people were sent here or were criminals whose sentence was lifted if they woudl come here, and they only wanted to take whatever they could and go back to europe.
This difference, however, made some radical differences exist today, almost like the here is my palce and going back home issues that once were the source of this.
And also, some pics are jsut plain horrible, but there are quite a few with them being black, the one on page 45 looks pale, but it much the same as page 42 (with the danisil) and presents them much closer to african standards than to arabian ones.

On the Colombian-Iraqi topic thing. Nif is right about the typical Colombian having a strong native American blood, (I'm saying this with an authority due to having lived in Colombia for a bit more than 5 years) though in the major cities one would find more intermixing with European blood, and those rare occasion when you travel to a small town/village and see a native with some distinctive Europeanfeatures... remnant from colonial times perhaps...
Also, during the early and middle twentieth century (specifically, between WWI and after WWI) South America saw a small influx of Europeans.
On the pictures. In contrast to those mentioned by Nif, the one on p. 115 and the pic on page 189 have them appearing paler... those of course we can argue that... we just need some more colored pictures.

Well, I do know there are more than one whity halfling picture in the books, most of them come from the AtS book too. Thing is, the one I spoke of and the description make it pretty clear, it seems the other pictures just have some generic halfling instead od the Midnight ones though.
And the halfling in the covers of the books, mainly AtS and CoS both are black and very afro, those pics are surely very very Midnighty and much les generic than nterior illustrations on the books tend to be.

To explain the difference in illustrations (between "afro" halflings and "european" halflings), I have the "free" halflings (both nomadic and agrarian) as darker-skinned (as they are more likely to get more sun exposure), while "enslaved" halflings would be lighter-skinned (reflecting their poor health conditions, lack of sun exposure, and sadness).
Just my two cents.

So they are dark, I must've missed or forgotten that. Anyway, I've been misled by rpg-art before, it is not often as accurate as it should be.
Smeagols explanation is a good one, though I'll think I'll stick with the "The artists didn't know what they were supposed to make, so they made generic halflings" explanation if my players ever confront me with the in-game vs. art inconsistency.

I can't wait for this one. I only saw the first D&D movie, but it was so bad that I laughed quite a lot.
