I've had this idea for a long time.... 
Think in style of the Hobbit, taking a seemingly simple idea (a beer run) and give build ideas for various adventure: encounters, tests, traps-puzzles, monsters, villains, and drama encounters of both action/combat AND diplomacy/politics - all in a Dwarven slanted (meaning mostly Dwarven PCs) 1-4 level adventure!

Base idea:
young dwarves must go get the ingredient for libations for an upcoming festival as a test of their dwarfhood, their "bearding" crucible. The trick, the beer needs crafted and the ingredients need negotiated or stolen from various lords, kings, races, etc...... the festival is a coming together of the leaders of armies of Men, Elves and Dwarves who's ancestors combined forces in this celebration ceremony of a battle of years past.

My thought for integrating this "happy" adventure opening into Midnight is to have this moot happen before (or at some point during) the Shadow Fall.  The moot is a great meeting with men and elves to start the fights.  To then culminate (at the end of this 1-4th level adventure)  at the moot  and  have the shadow fall... HARD. 

Cut.  100 or whatever many years later.  And we start a new continuation campaign more "serious" like Lord of the Rings. In the classic era of the Shadow for Midnight.

I am looking to re-read the Midnight story and also look at Hammer and Shadow. 
Do you have suggestions for the timeline, timeperiod that makes sense or is cool for this? 
How about locations or info on clans, etc... or starts of adventure ideas?   
Any specific info in the various Midnight books I should look at to plant seeds for the future campaign?

It seems like Durgis Rock would be an ideal setting, having it roll into the beginning of Crown of Shadow after the 100 year cut.

This sounds like it could be a nice way of getting players into the rules, magic, cultures prior to everything being on lock down. And there would be the added bonus of their old characters present at Durgis Rock for their new ones to interact with, let them see how things have changed because of the fall.

Belatedly... yes, this does look very promising as a starting point.

For direct relation to the great war, anywhere to the East of the Sea of Pelluria could work, so long as it has ready access to human-settled lands.  Do you want them to be involved in the betrayal of a great lord, the heroic resistance of another, the development of some shared resistance between dwarves and men to the new regime?  Pick a clan that suits, and post the PCs close enough to have that one be the 'old ally' to whom they are sent to renew bonds.
