Some resources for starter campaigns?
«

Greetings!
I'm a brand new DM and starting a new 5e DnD game in the Midnight setting.
I didn't like the absolute dark tone of the setting (beer and pretzel group) so I decided to start the campaign within the second age.
Was wondering if there was any starter campaigns on here that might be relevant, and where to find them.
So glad this forum exists - thanks peeps.

Ok so found a post saying the download links were broken and found some material on dropbox.
"What you don't know" looks interesting

Hey ChickenMobile, welcome to the boards.
If you can find Legends of Shadow, that gives some background on the Night Kings, including history, which would at least give you some overarching background material, though I don't know how much it would have on the second age in particular.

Hello Pheros!
The Night Kings were an interesting read so I will definitely find some way to include them even though they appear 2/3 way through the third age.
Perhaps eventually direct the party towards defeating one.
It's a shame that the downloads for the free campaigns for "Shades of Grey" and "Signs in Shadow" don't currently work.
However, i'm more gravitating towards partially changing the encounters in the DnD 5e 'Princes of Apocalypse' book rather than designing them myself. At least until I'm more comfortable DM'ing.
The "An act of Betrayal" seems like a good introductory and could fit in with my wanted starter.
(the players are prisoners and being sent to a mine)

If you're looking into the 2nd age there's a number of interesting moments during it. The 2nd age is the settings golden age, at least leading up to the last 28 years where Izrador's 2nd coming happens.
In the early years there is the aftermath of the 1st war against Izrador's forces. A forging of pacts between the Elves, the Dornish lords, and the Dwarves. There is further building and expansion for the humans and the Dwarves enter a time of rebuilding. The Fortress Wall along the North is established to keep the rising tide of Shadow minions from pouring forth.
A few hundred years later you get the arrival of the Sarcosans from their empire across the sea. There are the decades of fighting between them and all of the other races there. The Sarcosans can't penetrate into either the homes of the Elves or the Dwarves. But they absolutely destroy the Dorns in open combat and push them Northward. Eventually there is a treaty formed.
After that there is the breaking of ties from Old Sarcosa where they establish a new era of peace. After this there is a unification of the Sarcosan Nobles and the Dornish Lords and the Kingdom of Erenland is established and created. The years after that are the golden era where science, economy, religion, and advancements are allowed to occur.
But as all good things come, so they must end. Izrador strengthens his forces, gathers his hidden clergy, calls to the evil hearted dragons and then begins his assault against the Fortress Wall.
Lastly we have a siege war that lasts 28 years and nearly breaks the Kingdom of Erenland. Only an 11th hour decision by Xircxi the King of Dragons saved the forces of good.

I was planning to start the campaign near the invasion of the Sarcosans and therefore have some interesting interactions with the Fell.
The PCs would believe the immediate enemy are the human invaders but really this is a distraction while the Shadow Army gains power. *insert possible corruptions here*
Our group loves creating new characters so I don't actually think this would be a continuous long-term commitment. But it does open it up to play in multiple ages without finding a new setting to play in. (Fey races are also incredibly long-lived)
I might release my campaign here if it's any good.
