I'm seeing new rules and subsystems appearing in Pathfinder that might make it easier to achieve a Hero-Lab compatible Midnight 3.5 to Pathfinder conversion: http://paizo.com/paizo/blog/v5748dyo5lhd3?Magic-Items-Unchained.

I'm also thinking that Pathfinder mythic tiers doled out every 4-5 levels (or as the story calls) might be an interesting alternative to Midnight heroic paths, especially if one could structure them in a way that emulates the flavour of heroic paths.

Thoughts?

Covenant Items...
Hmm, while I find it enjoyable to think that the covenant item rules are being used again, there definitely needs to be some toning done to the items on display. The sheer amount of wording and abilities should probably be cut down on.

As for the Mythic rules...
I like the mythic rules. I love the uniqueness of Heroic paths. In a great many ways the mythic power that hero's would get is just better than the small abilities given each level. The downside is that the static abilities you would gain every 4-5 levels/ or whenever appropriate, would make everyone feel largely the same. While the archetype abilities you gain from the different Mythic paths while fairly diverse, are not nearly so diverse as Heroic paths.

Having been in both types of games, I'd have to say that Mythic is for grandiose, completely over the top games where the PC's are supposed to feel like they can stomp just about anything. Midnight is not that, or perhaps I should say I do not feel it should be like that. The power that comes with Mythic can quickly get way out of hand, and I don't think the two should mix.

I've got more to say but I gotta go right now.

I tend to agree with Luiniel on both, although I think Twiceborn might have just been referencing the progressive power magic items as a good Heroforge template for covenant items.

Mythic tiers are probably too powerful and less flavorful than the heroic paths. And the progression level by level is actually an important part of the experience, IMO, at least it was designed to give a certain feeling of constant but subtle growth in power.

IIRC. Smiley

Luiniel, Wil,

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, Wil is right, my first post was not as clear as it might have been. I just find the new progressive power magic items in Pathfinder might serve as a good HeroLab template for designing covenant items.

I haven't looked closely enough at mythic tiers to make a final determination for my campaign, yet… but in the absence of a viable, HeroLab-compatible alternative that doesn't require a whole lot of coding (I have neither the skill nor the time for that), not sure what else might be entered as a substitute for heroic path abilities, aside from adding additional traits, feats, spells, and/or skill points every level?

What are you up to these days, Wil (if you don't mind me asking, and don't mind sharing)? Anything RPG-related?

I'm not a Herolab expert, but I suspect the minor abilities granted by heroic paths wouldn't be too onerous to program (if such is necessary) and you could probably just get someone on a fan forum to do it for you. Just boil down each heroic path into a list of bennies and then select from a dropdown every time a character levels up. But again, our DM does all the Herolab work for us in our d20 Pro-driven Pathfinder game.

That's what I'm doing RPG related, playing in that Pathfinder campaign. Smiley But perusing this site has really given me the hankering to run a Midnight game. I ran a brief OD&D campaign a couple of summers back, but other than that, the online game, and Gencon every year I haven't been doing much. Well, other than getting my PhD, which is almost finished. Looking up the dissertation mountain is probably one reason I'm so excited about running a game again...all distractions seem more exciting. Smiley

So has anyone put Midnight into Hero Lab?
Or Realmworks for that matter?

I sincerely doubt it. It's been over 2 years and no further mention of this. Wil_Upchurch hasn't been on since May and TwiceBorn hasn't been on since July.

I was afraid of that. I'm thinking of setting up a game in Realm Works, so I was curious.
