Hello everyone. I'm a long time lurker, first time poster, and I need your help.

As you might've guessed, it concerns that gem of a campaign Crown of Shadow. I've been through it once as a player already, and I'm now chugging through it as a GM for the second time. My players are now arriving at Baden's Bluff, and this time I'd like to deviate a little from the campaign text.

The way CoS deals with Baden's Bluff is, in my opinion, not a way to do the city justice. That's why I've decided to put together a little something for my players here, but I haven't quite decided on what. I've had a look at A Traitor Amongst Us, the scenario from the Downloads section with just that in mind.

Do any crafty GMs or wily players have any experience with adventuring in Baden's Bluff? Either as part of the Crown of Shadow or outside it? How about the scenario A Traitor Amongst Us? Does anyone have any experience or notes they'd like to share?

Any and all help, input or friendly advice I can get would be much appreciated.

I made them meet the Avatar on the sewers of the city, and there I used a dire shark possessed by an astirax, they were terrified by it. Smiley

I used the docks and a few bars mostly, it was way before the Baden's Bluff supplement came out, I would probably use a small quarantine in the area they arrive to prevent them from leaving, the zone was recently the site of an attack from the insrugence that lead to a large numbers of deaths, this resulted in a large number of Btine Ungral. The Worm Docks seems the perfect place to stage this, and depending whether you have access to Under the Shadow or not, and how much you want to use the town you could either make them get caught up with something larger or just require them to either negotiate with the insurgents or have to find a way out of the quarantine area (which is merely there to prevent the undead from killing anyone in the other districts, leaving the dock inhabitants to fend for themselves as a punishment for the presence and attack of the insurgency.

In this scenario you could explore using orcs, the Well, a part of the sewer system on the town, with its drains for the rainwater and also the inhabitants, inns and taverns in the area. Been a while since I last read Under the Shadow, but the book is filled with sources of intrigues they can get caught while trying to get where they need to.

I had a scenario where the PCs had to sneak through the network of tunnels beneath the city trying to get to the worm docks. While they made their way through they ran into a group of Cabal Legates performing a Lottery for the destitute and the diseased.

Everyone drew stones from a bowl. In the bowl were a bunch of grey stones, a black stone and a white stone. The person who drew the white stone was cured of their ailment by the Legates (remove disease, or restoration, or whatever was needed). The one who drew the black stone was taken away to be sacrificed to the Cabal's fledgeling Corith.

My 2 cents:
I'm running CoS right now (by the way, I've found a bunch of things that haven't really made sense to me in CoS and had to change them, but that's another discussion).
I agree Baden's Bluff is not really done justice, especially if you read the sourcebook for it (Under the Shadow).

My plan is to use the encounter 5-3 Wary Horseman from Crown of Shadows closer to Baden's Bluff and, since they basically have the PCs captive, steal the Dragon case from the PCs. Then they will run into information that the Wary Horsemen operate out of or are controlled by one of the resistance cells in Baden's Bluff. Or they might go to Baden's Bluff and ask their elf contact how to get the case back. In any event they'll have to try to make contact with several resistance cells and figure out which one controls the Wary Horsemen.
