Hey all,
So as I mentioned in a post a couple of days ago, I am busy putting together a Midnight short story and campaign. It's been ages since I played Midnight (or any RPG in fact) but Midnight was always my favourite (with Fireborn a close second.)

I can't seem to remember how we dealt with hiding spells and magical weapons and things from Legates and their astiraxes? I know Charms are undetectable by them.

Well, there are a couple of ways to hide your magic from Astiraxes.

First and foremost there is the Scent-less spell meta-magic feat. It adds 3 spell points to any spell being cast but generally if you really need to get off a spell without pulling any Astiraxes in the area, it's worth the cost.

Next there is ritual magic, also a feat. Properly utilized it allows you to reduce the spell cost and thus effective spell level of a spell so that is minimizes detection radius. It's not a guarantee of being under an Astiraxes radar and it takes a lot longer to cast but again worth it if you've got some time and a handful of other Channelers on your hands.

A mildly dangerous approach, as it's not guaranteed, is to hope the Magic Aura spell keeps your enchantments hidden from Astiraxes, assuming they fail their will save.

Other than that, creatures with Spell like abilities, a.k.a. Innate Magic, is your only recourse. Creating charms, Heroic Path abilities, the Innate magic granted to Elves, Elflings, Halflings, and if I recall correctly a very Xenophobic village of Erenlanders are pretty much it for non-detection of Astiraxes. Monsters, Outsiders, the handful of Dragons, and other strange beings also have Innate Spell like abilities, often times their powers are far more dangerous but still remain undetectable.

Casting your spells in Midnight is dangerous in occupied lands. If you do have to channel your magic and none of the options above are in your repertoire, best to start running and hope the Shadow can't catch up to you.
