Wendle backed up, listening to Eirik. He was definitely ready to get the hell out of this mess. The others weren't so quick though, or maybe they felt they needed to stay to defend their allies. Whatever the case, the Fell were on them like a flood. Wendle cursed letting another sling bullet fly. Then he was grabbed from behind, pain blossoming in his shoulder.

Eirik's back arched in pain and he glanced briefly behind him at the relative security of the Dwarven store house. He could have made it there but it was unlikely that many of the others would. Especially if he took the light with him.

They were getting overwhelmed. But just as he was about to call out again, he saw Siobhan go down under another rush of Goblins. Without much thought he threw himself into the thick of it again. Swinging his vardatch at the one tackling her to the ground.

Dunk's shield rang out as the dead goblins' claws struck it, the metal saving him from injury.  But behind him, he heard a body thump, a yelp of pain, and he knew the fight was not going well for the others.

"Fall back!  To the storehouse if you can."

He grunted as one of the goblins tried to wretch his shield away from him.

Mandag leveled another fist into the goblin before him, but it wasn't enough to put it down. The creature returned in kind with claws and teeth thrashing towards him. The attack caught him on the side of the head and for a moment, what little light was left around him went out. He knew the feeling and it wasn't a good one, he could suddenly feel all the weight in his limbs, and the wounds he'd accumulated since spending the night in the hall. A few more hits like that and he'd be quickly overwhelmed.

"We're gonna need a hand with that if we wanna get over there!" he grunted out, turning his attention back to the goblin he'd failed to kill.

Kjellan felt a brief surge of hope when he saw that the one fell that had been on Dorin understood and obeyed his commands, and now turned on the nearest of its undead kin.

The dwarrow had no time to cheer. No sooner did he achieve one minor victory, that he suffered another setback.

He never saw the javelin that sailed through the air in his direction until it was too late -- its tip piercing the weak padding of his armour and biting into his left hip. He yelled out in pain, as his mind went numb and his eyes glazed over with pain. Although it hurt like hell, the wound was relatively shallow... With a supreme effort, Kjellan managed to keep his focus clear for at least a few moments longer...

He noticed that Wendle had strayed from the group toward the ruins of the trading post, and concerned that his father would be vulnerable on his own, the dwarrow gritted his teeth and limped toward the gnome. The throbbing pain and protruding javelin sapped his strength, made him sluggish...

His heart leapt into his throat when he noticed the red eyes lurking just beyond the light of Eirik's spell, a few feet away from Wendle.

"FATHER, LOOK OUT! THERE'S ONE BEHIND YOU, IN THE SHADOWS!!!..."

Too late... the Fell had already grabbed the gnome...

Siobahn felt the pain of the attack, dulled as it was by her armor, it still hurt as a goblin leapt out of the derkness to grab and stab her. It was the next one however, the one that tangled her legs and sent her tumbling to the icy ground that caused the panic to set in.

All thought of form gone, she stabbed at the monster at her legs, trying to shove the Ashblade through it's face as she reached out for something to burn it with.

He could fall back to the storehouse as Dunk shouted. However he wasn't about to leave his compatriots behind to deal with the Fell while he ran and hid.

Nefario growled. He really hated Fell. His knife looked like it did nothing to him.

His attention turned to a javelin that flew by Mandag.

Let's try something else then...

He ran to the javelin, grabbed it, and threw  it at the fell he attacked just seconds before.

He hoped if he threw it hard enough he could pin it to the ground.

Dorin roared, his basso voice echoing in the night as he thrashed, flinging the Fell grasping at him about like toys. Any ordinary goblin would have been thrown back into the night, but the undead clung to him with supernatural tenacity. With the battle frenzy roaring behind his eyes, though, Dorin was a force that even their unnatural power could not bring down.

His left fist came around in a short, punishing arc, aiming to pulp the skull of one clinging to the opposite shoulder even as he stamped down at another trying to grasp his legs.

Eirik lifted the often too heavy blade he had chosen to use from the messy pulp that had moments before, been a Fell Goblins head. With no immediate threats clawing at his throat, he had a brief moment to glance around. The group of them, he saw, were staying mostly together but they were not retreating fast enough.

Dorin's roar caught his attention northward and just at the edge of the light, he could make out the large Dorn being swarmed over by a handful of Goblin Fell.

Eirik took a step forward to help him but noticed that several other Fell were getting too close on their left flank.

"Ivy, work with Mandag to clear the way to the storehouse."

As Nefario dashed away, Eirik took a deep breath and with a  forced grunt of exertion, hefted the blade upward and took the Halflings place with a massive swing. But rather than try and finish off one target he reversed his swing at the second one within reach and attempted to smash down upon it as well.

Though it was all too evident that Amethyst had never even attempted anything remotely like this before, the erstwhile storyteller slammed her cedeku back into its scabbard, lunged down and in to grab Siobhan, and set about hauling her back out of immediate harm's way.

True, such an effort probably shouldn't involve a hefty pull on an accidentally-snared handful of hair.  Nor was Amethyst succeeding in doing over-much to defend herself against the still-active Fell.  But the frenetic energy she threw into her effort ensured that she managed to yank her friend back, then set about dragging the warrior into an approximation of an upright and combat-ready stance.

"Someone get to Wendle!", she shouted, hoping that helping her friend rather than running to aid the gnome had been the right decision.

Kjellan stumbles to Wendle's aid, doing his best to resist the throbbing pain that threatens to overwhelm him.

"DA'!!! HANG IN THERE!!! FIGHT BACK!!!"

The dwarrow clenches his jaws as he raises Woden's axe, the mithril gleaming in the light of Eirik's spell. He swings the blade with all his might into the undead goblin, crying out in pain as he does so.

"GET OFF MY DA'!!!"

well let's hope that keep him there

He smiled as the stuck fell tried to attack him. He regretted instantly not paying attention to the other fell as he got attacked. It scratched him and then grabbed on.
Ahhh, frikin $%&*

He began trying to get away from the fells grasp.

From her position on the ground Siobahn knew she was in trouble. Even as the satisfaction of killing the last fell thing faded, she realized that the monster hovering over her had her dead to rights.

That all made the sudden yank on her hair all the more alarming. Only the impulse to look back and up at whatever was grabbing her forestalled the Ashblade, already in motion as she realized with a crashing wave of relief that Amethyst was literally dragging her out of danger. With an adrenaline fueled strength born of desperation and protectiveness, the smaller woman not only pulled the fiery fighter clear, but hoisted the Sarcosan to her feet.

Flashing her friend a wild grin she spun past her, rolling off her, her free hand applying gentle but notable pressure to Amethyst’s hip, making her turn so that both women rotated as one coming about with Siobahn now facing the creature in a standing position, back to back with Amethyst, her sword sizzling hungrily in the cold.

It was harrowing. The dark and cold made it nearly impossible to keep track of where everyone else was. The sounds of yells and screams of pain managed to punch through the roaring drone of waterfall, but for the most part the noise was all anyone could hear.

The Fell Goblins seemed to come out of nowhere, jumping in from behind rocks to grab onto clothing and flesh, dogpiling onto the refugees and chomping down with terrible teeth.

They were strong and tough and very hard to kill. One of the ones orin had swatted away came dragging itself back singlemindedly, not even feeling the broken limbs that would no longer obey it.

Kjellan drove his axe down into the goblin on his father's back, causing it to turn away from it's bloody feast and his at him, spraying him with Wendle's blood. That gave Wendle teh opportunity to drive a dagger into the little monster's eye. It twitched and scabbled at him as Wendle rolled it off of him and grabbed his son's arm to be hauled to his feat.

"This ain't good..." Wendle said holding a ragged wound with one hand and fending off encroaching goblins with a dagger in the other as he fought back to back with his son.

Nefario's claws gave as good as he got from the Fell and in the end it was Mandag, grabbing the little monster by the back of the neck and slamming it's face intot he ground a few times that let Nefario scramble free.

With Amethyst's desperate gambit paying off, the two slightly seperated groups had been reunited, forming a small circle of defenders that made it much harder for the fell goblins to blindside. Only Dorin was unaccounted for, until Eirik raised his glowing light overhead and watched in awe as the massive dorn cast off three goblins in one mighty sweeping twist and then tromped backwards swinging his new hammer to keep them at bay. He looked like he'd been mauled by an animal, so covered was he by scratches and bites.

The goblins were undead and ravenous, but they weren't stupid. Some of them saw the strong enemy force, aware and defending, and fell back into the dark to hide behind rubble, vanishing into the night. Then others saw they were outnumbered and fell back as well. Only the blood crazed ones stayed, lost in their frenzy, and were put down by the terrible violence of desperation.

The defenders found themselves regrouped at the trapdoor that lead to the once-hidden cellar amid the ruins of the tradehouse.

One by one they slipped inside the hallway, cold and bloody,. to take refuge from their enemies.

Wendle slumped against the back wall of the old underground store room, his dwarven eyes looking at the remains of the fire pit they had made the last time they were here.

"How many of them are still out there?"

Durgis the First walked in through the wall, unseen by any but Kjellan, becoming less translucent the closer he got to the Helm. He grinned, his spirit invigorated by the fight.

"I got two before they tore apart the body I was riding. If I had to guess, I'd say there's probably another ten still out there."

Kjellan slumped against the wall next to Wendle. He did not reply to Wendle's question, but just stared vacantly at the spirit of Durgis the First. It had taken the dwarrow a supreme effort of will to keep on fighting after he sustained the last wounds from one of the undead goblins, but with the adrenaline starting to fade, he was now paying the price...

Amethyst spared the worst-injured of her companions a deeply worried look - though she remained quite oblivious to the ghostly presence of Durgis - before stowing her weaponry once more and delving into some of her wide assortment of pockets and pouches.

"Can you try a little first aid, Eirik?  You're better as a healer than I am, though I can give you some preparations to help ward off infection."  Her voice was breathy, strained with tension, but calmer than she had feared it would be.

"And...."  She produced the Charms salvaged from the fallen dwarfhold, holding them up.  "Can anyone from Durgis Rock identify these, on the off-chance that they'll help us now?"

The cold and fatigue had made her last attempt at fighting futile. Ivy was beyond relieved that they had made it inside. Her head was still filled with the horrible sounds of crunching bones and bloody cries. She didn't even feel like she could help much with healing the group or herself, at least not with any kind of speed. She wished time would stop so that she could sleep. She half wished that she might never wake up from it.

Eirik took the chance to catch his breath, tossing his pack aside and slumping with his back against the wall, leaving his gore covered vardatch on the ground for now.  His arms felt shaky, he wasn't used to the weight he had been throwing around with the vardatch, but at least he didn't feel cold. Odd that, maybe it had something to do with the Elven clothing he had put on.

As Amethyst spoke, he looked up at the faces of his companions. They were all tired, and most were wounded to some degree. He rubbed his eyes and felt the pain in his back where he had been hit by a Javelin but steeled himself. He reached for his pack to dig through it and find the various medicinal items they had acquired from the Elves.

Tonight was going to be a long one.

"Alright, everyone settle down for a moment. Those who are wounded remove your clothing where you are wounded. Everyone should drink some water, even if you think you're not thirsty now, you will be. I'll see about stitching you up. Oh, and yes Amethyst, I'll need whatever help you can give me. Those who were bit by the Fell will need to get looked at first."

Dunk was tired and sore, though looking around he realized he had it far better than most.  Kjellan looked exhausted, but he knew his nephew would hold on.  Instead he went to Wendle, his old friend, and sat by him.

"Took a bit of a pinprick back there Wendle, huh?  I'm guessing there are at least a few of them left.  I saw at least four, maybe more.  Best to hold here for a little while.  Maybe in the daylight we can get away from here safer."

"That sounds good to me." Wendle nodded tiredly. "I really thought I was a goner that time. Didn't see how many of them slunk away, but Goblins don't much like daylight anyway. Fell Goblins? Probably less so."

It took a few moments, but Kjellan eventually regained his senses.

"I wasn't bitten, 'just' took a javelin to the hip. But look after the others first, Eirik."

The dwarrow was clearly fatigued from his wound.

Turning to Wendle and Dunk, he said: "I thought I heard Durgis say there were still at least ten of them out there… You have no idea how happy I am that you're still with us, Da'..."

While Amethyst gathered her alchemical remedies and the others began talking or just sat trying to recover from their most recent ordeal, Eirik rifled through packs to find blankets and other comforting articles they had taken from the Dwarven hold-fast in order to make beds to lie down on. He knew that the wounds on some were far worse than others and he needed to try and keep them from succumbing to blood loss or shock. Down here, in the dark below ground, where it was cold and wet, the environment was just as much a threat to them as the remaining Goblin Fell were.

That was the funny thing about shock, it could kill you well past any imminent danger. Eirik had seen just enough wounded men drop off from their battle adrenaline and decide to take a little "nap," only for them to never wake up again.

To hell with that!

He thought to himself as he pulled out the remainder of the Elves healing kit. He hadn't been able to do anything for Rhiann, Eirin, or Bayal. But he could damn well do something about those in front of him. He grabbed a hold of a threading needle, his dagger, and a strand of the linen bandages. Then he got Amethyst to help him begin examining everyone.

He went for Ivy and had her lay down on the bedding. She had definitely seemed the closest to slipping away so he made sure see to her first.

Colin had always said that once you do something it only gets easier to deal with when it comes up again. Eirik wasn't sure if that was entirely true or not, but he did find it easier to keep his composure around Ivy than he had earlier. She was battered and bruised from the fall but the Fell had done worse with their claws. Eirik worked tenderly with her, utilizing several numbing agents that Amethyst had brewed up and taking care to bandage her properly, he was able to patch her up decently well before seeing her off to rest.

Once he had figured out what he was doing from working on Ivy, he really fell into his stride with Wendel. The Gnome had been pretty badly gashed up in a number of places. Stomach, arms, shoulders, and with a deep gash on the back half of his right leg. But with Amethyst's remedies on hand and using a good amount of what was left of the Elves kit, it was careful but relatively easy work to make sure the Gnome would pull through the evening.

Unfortunately for Mandag, things were exactly the opposite. When he removed the bandages he had placed on the unarmed warrior from earlier he immediately saw the problem. Puncture wounds around the neck, deep bruises around the ribs and arm bones, a twisted ankle, and even a badly sprained wrist from where he had obviously forced it wrong, probably trying to force a Fell off. Somehow the Erenlander was managing to stay upright and moving but it was obviously painful for him to do so. After an hour and using up the rest of Rhianns kit, Eirik admitted he just couldn't do anything for Mandag. It would likely take weeks for him to recover on his own. He had been hoping to avoid the further use of magic but he risked it anyway. He warned the Defender to bite down on something and a few seconds later there were several loud pops and a grunt of pain as the body righted itself in several places.

Despite his protests, Eirik took to healing Kjellans wounds next.  It was a little more difficult without Rhiann's supplies but again, like Wendle, he fell right back into easily sewing up and dressing the Dwarrows wounds. He did manage to find a bite wound on the right shoulder of the Dwarrow but didn't say anything about it. He merely set about carefully cleaning it and using a good deal of an anti-septic Amethyst had come up with. It bubbled and made a soft hissing noise before toning down.

Once the four most wounded had been dealt with, Eirik set about making sure everyone was ready to rest soundly. He was tired himself, and his back was sore but he knew the pain would pass. He went to the door the had all clambered through and imagined the entrance in his mind. Clear and empty, but lit up by the torch light. Then imagined Fell coming within the light radius and focused until he could picture it clearly. It stayed.

He quietly walked over to the Amethyst, who was busy putting her kit away.
"Thank you for your help earlier. I admit, I had never really learned much about alchemy in the past, but it is a handy thing to know about.  I'll be keeping watch this evening and helping the rest recover as they sleep. I could do the same for you if you would like?"

As Elrik tended Wendle, Dunk moved toward the entrance of their underground hiding place.  He wasn't in great shape, but he was far better off than most of the warriors in the group, so he took watch while they healed.

Siobahn sat quietly as Eirik worked through the night. She was nowhere near the worst injured of the group, her arm, while painful, seemed a minor enough wound that she could handle it herself once she got a hold of one of Amethyst's bandages.

Now that the surge of energy that came with constant danger had worn off it was her other injuries that worried her. She could see blood trickling from the punctures and seams of her armor, and given the increasingly painful throbbing radiating from her right breast, she feared what she would find once she took off her armor. Those horrible little monsters had teeth like knives and she knew that she was lucky to be alive. They all were.

With a groan she began to work the straps of her leather armor.
