Hey everyone.
I hope to initiate a new project for this site's contributers!
Creating NPCs is such a pain...and Midnight (being unique) makes copy-and-pasting bad guys from 3.5 or Pathfinder simply unsatisfying.
What I propose:
Contributers would create and submit NPC characters using
all legal Midnight sources
!
The characters should be presented at levels 1, 5, 10 and 15 so that GMs could pick NPCs of the appropriate level.
Ideally, we'd all use the same format for ease and uniformity.
Let me know what you think.
Below you'll find some details about stat arrays and format.
Feedback please! I'm not a game expert so if you can improve this idea, PLEASE speak up!

Although I still love the setting I cannot really bear the thought of going back into the ruleset, so I am not going to participate. The background, personality, desires and allegiances of an NPC are much more useful to me than simple stats.
Buuuuuut I wish you well in this, it can surely come handy for those running the game straight out of the box.

Of course not, the site if to be used by everyone regarding all things Midnight, despite my own use for the material. I hope people drop by too, as you post some there is a larger chance of getting more people to participate too.

Here's a similar thread I started a few years ago.
I was concentrating on the orc armies and tried to make the stat blocks as simple as possible so GMs could sort of mix and match their squads. Feel free to use any of it as you see fit.

My only question is, when you say Legal Midnight Sources, do you mean only the Players Handbook and the Midnight splat books, or do you include all legal 3.5 books as well?
Personally, I've moved on to Pathfinder and have been slowly converting the old material to that system, so I probably won't be adding much to this thread if it's sticking to the original rules set, but my rules-fu is still pretty good. I will definitely be able to critique anything that gets put up here.

Thanks for that link. VERY handy since my heroes want to square off against Grial's armies.
When I said legal Midnight sources, I was hoping for pure Midnight without other 3.5 sources. I want to capture the pure flavour of Midnight. That said, if contributers wanted to include optional (non Midnight but official 3.5) features, they could do so but prefer it not to be reflected in the stat blocks (more as an optional "note" at the end).
A friend of mine is currently working on a few neat prestige classes etc. I'll be posting his work in the coming days.
Thanks for offering a critical eye. Both my pal and I will require your insights.

Like DH, I've moved on to using Pathfinder as the rules set for my Midnight campaign. I have very little time to devote to game prep as it is, that it would not make sense for me to develop NPCs for a rules set I no longer use (3.5). That having been said, I can definitely see myself borrowing/adapting NPCs that might be posted in this thread.
If the thread welcomed NPCs developed using a combination Pathfinder/Midnight 3.5, then I might be able to contribute on an occasional basis.
Good luck with the project -- I love the idea.

Well..if contributers want to include other mechanics/systems from 3.5 to pathfinder, then let's go for it. Why put a limit on it?
I'll try to keep my contributions limited to Midnight RAW for GMs use in the future.
It's funny - this idea came about because of the Pathfinder "NPC Codex" which I LOVE as a GM. I just wished there was one for Midnight and behold! This thread was born.

The Blackwood Archer has no desire to put himself in harms way. If alone, he will always retreat if he’s damaged a foe in some way. If in a party, the Blackwood Archer remains steadfast and will not retreat unless half his party is dead and none of his opponents are dead.

Living in the north of Erethor, Yalindyl witnessed the deaths of many of his northern cousins. Seeing first hand the overwhelming odds presented by Izrador’s orcs, Yalindyl decided he wanted to be on the winning side. Optimization options
GMs may wish to make the Blackwood Archer Erunsil (Wildlander is a favoured class) and award an Icewood bow at level 1. GMs who wish to create a powerful NPC may wish to apply the Villainous Path “Shadowblessed” from Tome of Shadows II

Liar (Ex): You have betrayed your people to the Shadow, and you know that you will sufer at their hands if your duplicity is discovered. Shadow Brand (Su): When you become a servant of Izrador, you are marked with an invisible sign that brands you as property of the Shadow. Though invisible to the naked eye, this brand can be seen by astiraxes and anyone who is the subject of a true seeing spell. When dealing with minions of the Shadow who know your true nature as a fey turncoat, you gain a +2 competence bonus to Diplomacy checks.
Shadow Aspect 1: Elf (Su): As an elf in the service of the Shadow, you are affected less by nearby black mirrors. As such, the increased spell energy cost that you pay when casting channeled spells near a black mirror is reduced by 1.
Shadow Aspect 2: Elf (Sp): You become keenly aware of life, death, and magic in the world around you. You are constantly under the effects of the deathwatch and detect magic spells, with caster levels equal to your character level. These spells may be dispelled, but they automatically reactivate as a free action on your turn.
Shadow Aspect 3: Elf (Ex): Your elven features begin to take on an unhealthy cast. Your skin grows sallow, your eyes become sunken, and your demeanor becomes cruel and detached. You gain a +2 bonus to your Intelligence score and a +1 bonus to either ranged attacks or caster level checks (your choice), but you lose the Innate Magic feat.
Notes on Hitpoints:
Wildlander receives 8 hp at level 1 plus Con bonus (in this case +1)
Wildlander receives 5 hp at each level plus Con bonus (in this case +1)

If anyone is feeling like it, you can fix the table at the bottom for me so that I can use your template for each new adversary. Failing that, I'll try to figure it out myself.
Hope you like the first NPC.
Note: Minor error: At level 15 I did not increase the int and therefore did not increase his skill points. Will work on that shortly.
