Clouse ran. Surprised by the distance he could considering his lungs, the blessing was relieving much of his stress. Despritly looking for the most alive looking ogre he could find.

The ring that Jael gave him, and the only reason he was still alive. It must counteract this poison. He slipped it onto an ogres tin finger trying to force it onto its over-sized hands as best he could, then came his motivational speech.

"Wake up ogre! What are you doing? Sleeping during your labor!?"
He drew a deep breath, even the blessing had its limits. "Get down their and kill the tiny hairy men. NOW!"

Red ran past sheild fully up and ready for arrows.

York sprinted past both of them with remarkable speed.

Blanket had not been having a good time.

First, he'd been attacked by the cold thing and the hot thing, and then his body stopped working and he ended up sitting in the water while everyone else was having a good time squishing dwarves in the other room. Then everyone ran away up the stairs. He and a few orcs who'd woken back up managed to drag themselves to the lift and push that thing Clouse had used.

He didn't know how long he'd laid there on the battlefield, paralyzed and wishing his friend Marakal was there. He watched the fort explode, and then he slept.

When he woke up a bugbear tried to get him to work. He couldn't even kill him. He couldn't hardly do anything. Then, the big boss human came by and told him and another ogre to go throw all the bodies in the big room down into the pit.

He did, even though lifting a tiny orc was like lifting a giant rock. Breathing kept getting harder and all he wanted to do was sleep, so even when he saw the traitor dwarf who had said he was Blanket's friend and then had run away on the wagon and helped the bad people who had lit Blanket on fire again, he didn't do anything. He just let them poke the dead elf and go into the hallway.

All he wanted to do was sleep.

And now Sergeant Clouse was yelling at him again and cramming something onto his hand. Blanket blinked, taking a deep, strong breath and nodded, struggling to his feet.

He was not the strongest ogre anymore, but he was still King Blanket even though he'd lost the blanket he tore off the wagon.

He didn't need it. He was the blanket.

With surprise and stealth more or less done for, Dorin found himself on more familiar ground - action. He looked around, quickly gauging where all his companions were, and started out after the leaders at a measured trot, making sure not to outpace any of the smaller folk. The Shadow's forces might have spotted them now, but if they wanted to get at the big Dorn's friends, they were going to have to go through him to do it.

And that was no easy task.

Looking back over her shoulder, Siobahn's eyes widened with horror as she saw Ivy's body jerk with impact. Squeezing Amethyst's hand to get her attention she skidded to a halt.

"%$^#!!"

Spinning on her heel she dashed back the way they had come, Ashblade crumbling to catch the wind as her extended both arms to scoop up the smaller woman, surprised at how light she was.

"Ivy's been hit, we'll need to get these arrows out once we can stop!" she called to Amethyst as she turned to resume their escape.

She could see Dorin preparing himself to head off pursuit if need be and a part of her wanted to take the fight to them.

Desperately, a little part of her mind started feeling for sources of flame, the way a person being beaten to death reaches for anything they can use to defend themselves.

Riddar hung on the rope, slowly lowering him and their Dwarven captive down below. He had listened as the Dwarf began screaming from the heat, then from above he could hear the distant, echoing sound of a commotion.

Riddar cursed, out loud. "The worst timing... I told them not to engage!" Now he was precariously hanging by a rope above a seething melting pit, not the best place for someone like him to be. He considered climbing back up, with the Bugbears help he could get back up swiftly. But, what if the Dwarf turned sooner and was still able to act on his own accord? What then?

Riddar cursed his luck. But he had to make a decision. Fast. He looked up the rope and shouted. "Faster! Lower us faster!" He was testing his already shaky fortune but he knew he had to get this done quickly. He would just have to rely on his sergeant. "Clouse, don't you fail me now."

The red goblin surged in, planting itself at the bottom of the stairs just as Dorin rushed back and planted himself at the top. They stared at each other as Siobhan grabbed ivy and began to pull her back out of the line of fire with Nefario dashing forward to catch up with Dunk and Kjellan.

At the far end of the hall the round door to the Hall of Heroes loomed. It had been smashed open and Kjellan could see faint licking flames and hear the sounds of battle as he got closer.

A dwarf. And Orcs.

Eirik heard the twang of arrows fire from their bow strings and the gasps of pain as they found their marks. He saw Siobhan turn and rush past him back to where Ivy was. He watched as she scooped the Elfling up, Ivy had two arrows sticking out of her and he considered turning to give them some cover, but things were about to get worse very fast.

They had to run. So he did the smart thing and ran with the rest of the group to the Hall of Heroes.

When Siobhan pulled away, Amethyst slowed, almost coming to a halt as she anxiously side-stepped along while gazing fearfully backwards.

Then with Siobhan in motion once more, the alchemist turned her attention back to legging it as fast as she could, haring off after those leading the way - while trying to shut her mind to whatever horrors might lie before or behind.

The refugees ran, Dorin pulling up the rear as Siobhan rushed past him with Ivy.

The red goblin at the bottom of the stairs looked like he wanted to follow, but he held the line and waited for orders.

The pale elfling's voice voice was the only thing that followed them, shouting up the hallway in the native tongue of the Small Folk, "Run while you can. Because no matter where you go, I will always find you!"

At the end of the hall Dunk and Kjellan burst into the Hall of Heroes to a shocking scene.

The Hall was a ruin of it's former glory. Cases and pedestals were smashed and toppled, the artifacts of Durgis Clan strewn and crushed beneath the hobnailed boots of the orcish soldiers. Bodies were cast about. Loremasters. Dwarven soldiers. The wounded they had hoped to save. All were dead amid dozens of orcish corpses.

At the back of the chamber against the great door leading to the Hall of Ancestors, where the refugees had been locked in the night before, there was a battle still engaged.

Six orcs stood in a bloody melee with Mandag and Dorthane Woden.

"Woden!" Dunk said breathlessly.

"Kjellan, that hole leads out. Lead the injured, I'll help Woden" he said over his shoulder while pointing to the hidden entrance.  He then made for the battle, and his friend.

Eirik made his way behind the others and into the hall. When he saw the bloody combat, he pulled his bow and took aim at the back of one of the Orcs and released.

Dunk fumbled for something to throw, his eye falling on the silvery pommel of a weapon caught under a fallen cabinet that lay in his path. Something about it nagged at him as he instinctively reached for it, grabbing and upending the cabinet to free the weapon and hurl it at the orcs attacking his Dorthane.

It tumbled end over end, slamming into the back of one of the shadow's soldiers. It didn't howl or grunt or scream. It just snapped it's head around and glared. The lipless, noseless sneer of the Dead Mother tribe was made worse by the axe wound that bisected this orc's face. It was no wound that could have been survived.

These orcs were Fell.

Dunk knelt behind the cabinet as Kjellan ran up and whipped his inutek out at the orc that had just begun to move towards them. It went down sprawling just as Dunk registered pain in his knee.

He'd brought his knee down on dwarven throwing axe that looked like it was made of pale gold, fashioned to look like the sun was rising over the haft. Wavy sunbeam blades swept out from the semi-circular axe edge.

Looking up at the prone orc, he could see the axe that he had just thrown. That one was gleaming silver, as though the crescent moon had been fastened to the end of the grip.

Without a weapon in his hand at the moment, he picked up the golden hatchet. It's silver mate, lodged in the orc's spine, wavered like it was setting at the the edge of the horizon, and vanished.

A wisp of silver smoke wound around Dunk's wrist and suddenly he was holding both axes.

Mandag had been fighting all through the night, so much so in fact that it had all started to blur together. He could no longer recall how long they'd been fighting for, or when it all started. He was amazed at how long they had been able to survive considering how outnumbered they were, but then he'd never fought side by side with a dwarf before. Nor had he ever thought that he would up until that night. He had heard stories of the dwarves' resilience in combat, but the stories did no justice to what he saw first hand. Seeing that orcs had now turned fell, Mandag had picked an axe off the corpse of a nearby dwarf. Travelling without weapons had always afforded Mandag an advantage in the city, but fists were an unfit weapon to combat fell. Just as another wave of the once dead orcs rushed toward them, he heard the sound of the hall's main door bursting open. He knew it was unwise to take his eyes off of an opponent but his brain couldn't help itself as his gaze shifted towards the door.

He was unprepared for what he saw. Standing there instead of more orcs was two dwarfs and a human, with more coming in behind them.

Given the situation he found himself in, Mandag had been doubtful he would ever see his companions again. He hoped that they had found a way to survive and made it out, but he knew it was unlikely. Dying in the dwarven hall would be a worthy death so long as the rest of the group was able to continue in their mission. They were almost all he had been able to think about since they were split up. He didn't like being separated from them, and given past experience with the shadow he could only imagine the worst.

Mandag's brain was so fatigued that it took him a moment to recognize the faces of his allies. He was overcome with a simultaneous sense of amazement and relief upon seeing them. The feeling left quickly however as he remembered where he was and turned his attention back towards the oncoming orcs. He readied his axe and took a swing toward the closest one with a new sense of motivation.

They would all survive this together.

Ivy's feet left the ground as Siobahn grabbed her from behind and rushed her away from the confrontation. She was angry at her at first because she had made up her mind to die fighting. The world finally seemed hopeless with the elves dead. She would take as many of them with her has she could. But as she watched the stairwell disappear, the pain took some of the fight out. Then she saw the ceiling of...was it the Hall of Heroes again? They had gone full circle.

She squirmed free, feeling a bit embarrassed until she saw the death surrounding her. This is what she wanted for herself? To be a dead hero?

Orcs.

She saw Dunk and Kjellan moving fast and metal gleamed. Her instincts reignited.

Dunk's eyes widened as the silver throwing axe appeared in his hand.

"The Sun and the Moon...I'd only heard tales..." he whispered to himself.

For the first time in a long time, he smiled.  He held his clan's history in his hands.  As long as he held them, Clan Durgis would not be forgotten.  His head popped up to once again focus on the battle raging ahead.

Ivy twisted out of Sibhan's grasp and dropped easily to the floor, pulling her bow and firing smoothly. Her arrow was joined in flight by Eirik's. They slammed neatly into the orc that had just turned to see what was going on behind it.

The arrows struck into a massive axe wound that had caved in the orc's armor and caused the metal to pinch and hold the wound open, like the steel was hugging the tear.

The orc looked down at the arrows and it's cheeks lifted. Had it had lips, it would have been a smile.

Nefario and Dorin caught up to the mess just in time to see Mandag take advantage of the distraction by splintering the Fell orc in front of him's teeth and Thane Wodan's axe taking another's leg off at the knee.

The orc on the ground found that it's legs were tied up by Kjellan's athrak, but it was single minded. It surged across the floor, dragging itself by it's arms with surprising speed to end up on it's knees and reaching over the cabinet for Dunk.

The one with the arrow in it's chest took two steps and leaped, tackling Kjellan to the ground.

Dorin took in the sight of the dwarven ruler fighting for his life, and he hefted the prybar he'd carried all these miles, starting to lumber forward to join the fight. Focused on the battle ahead, he didn't watch his footing, and he almost stumbled as something caught his ankle.

The object hefty enough to slow his progress was a rare thing, and Dorin glanced down in surprise. His eyes widened slightly, and he stooped, reaching down with one hand. Standing back up, the big Dorn hefted an enormous hammer. Made with the sturdy construction of the dwarves, the head was as wide across as the Dorn's massive fist and covered in runework. The runes also ran down the thick haft, just as solid as the prybar he held in his other fist; which hit the ground with a clang as Dorin tossed it down.

Rolling his neck, the giant's eyes gleamed, and he took one rolling step forward, then another and another. He slapped the hammer against his palm with a meaty smack and roared a wordless challenge as his momentum built, carrying him toward the fight with a proper weapon in his hands for the first time.

"DUNK!!! LOOK OU...!!!"

Kjellan did not have time to complete his warning call before the undead orc with the axe wound and protruding arrows flew at the dwarrow and threw him to the ground, landing on top of him. Kjellan screamed in panic, thrashing and kicking and trying to squirm free from the horror's grasp as it bit into the flesh of his shoulder...

His life was flashing before his eyes...

No... this is not how I want to go...

"Durgis... help me..." he gasped between screams...

The orc's fist connected with Dunk's shoulder.  Pain leapt up, but Dunk had a single mind to end the orc, and brought the Urutuk in his hand down on the creature.

To Eirik, fighting always seemed a degree subdued from reality. It was always fast, and usually brutal but it was always in differing shades of grey until it was over. Yet at this moment everyone, who had been in the room when Rhiann or rather the Elf Queen cast her spell, shone with hues of color. He felt more vibrant than he could ever recall before. He could push himself harder and so he did.

The Orcs still in there lacking grey were pushing forward but Eirik wouldn't allow them to get closer. He reached down to a nearby dead Orc and wrenched Dwarven hatchet out of its body, aimed for one of the Orcs fighting Mandag and the Dwarven leader and threw as hard as he could.

Seeing her arrow vex the orc about as much as a stiff breeze, Ivy began going through the mental gymnastics to prepare herself to die. Then his grin exploded. Before she knew what was going on, the orc was had tackled Kjellan. She swung her head around to see the other orc, minus one leg, dragging himself at Dunk. A chance...

She dropped her bow and untied braided leather and rope cord from around her waist in a single motion. Given the clever way she tied it, and the looseness of her yellow (and now blood-stained) cloak, the casual observer would have been surprised to see her swinging the two hollowed out stones tied to its ends.

Keeping the safe distance the weapon allowed, she let it fly, holding fast to one end with one hand and letting the length slide through her other. With a whistling sound that resonated in the hall, the stones crashed into the back of the orc's unarmored head. The look of pain it had made just after Dunk had slammed a blade into its shoulder froze on its face. It slumped over onto the cabinet, still and broken.

She had no idea where that had come from; this was unlike her. It's not that she was a stranger to fighting, even killing. But she would have, should have, done the more prudent thing: run. This time, she had wanted nothing more than the empty every arrow, swing every stone, into anyone that wasn't a friend or already dead. She wanted to protect...what did she want to protect?

She looked at Dunk, her mouth hanging open slightly and eyes wide. She nodded. "Durgis...," was all she could say.

Nefario took a quick look around to figure out exactly what was going on. Everyone was moving, people were yelling, there was so much chaos. He looked to the dwindling orc forces on the other side of the room and smiled in a way that resembled more of a snarl. He ran forward a bit and then let one of his knives fly from his hand.

Kjellan managed to wedge his forearm beneath the orc's chin and lever upwards, prying the jaws away from him. Otter's grappling training came rushing back to him and he twisted his hips and hooked his other arm beneath the orc's armpit. With a twist and a shove, he half-pushed, half twisted and managed to tuck himself under and out beneath the orc's armpit and out of it's grasp.

It didn't miss a beat though. It spun and lashed out at him with claw-like fingers, ripping another tear in his shirt but barely scraping the skin.

Nearby, another turned away from it's original targets, tired of waiting for an opening to reach Mandag or Woden. It saw Dorin out in the open and lunged. It caught the big man along his bicep, tearing open the skin and trying to yank him in to chew on his flesh, but Dorin slammed his palm forward hard enough to shove the Fell back, it's arms windmilling for balance.

Woden's axe found another skull, adding to the collection of bodies he seemed to be trying to build a barricade out of. Then, he brought the orc he held by the throat to the ground, slamming it down with a hateful yell and a brutal stomp to the head. Another was quick to take it's place though, rushing in and managing to get a grip on the Thane's armor and pull itself in to take a sickening bite out of Woden's cheek.

Mandag had managed to avoid the blow of the one fell orc that was still armed. The vardatch clanged into the stone pillar his back was against as he ducked away.

In a matter of moments the six fell had been reduced to three.
