Re-reading the books
«

It's been almost five years since I read or re-read a Midnight book. I've scanned the books for references and check information, but not sat down and re-read them. After a decade of thinking about and writing for the setting, a lot of information has been jumbled and I find that I've forgotten details and at times can't remember if an idea I had had been written up before (I blame advancing age). I'm going to take my time and really re-read selected books and think about how the pieces fit together. My goal is first enjoyable reading but my second is looking for something to spark future writing. I already have one short series about to hit the boards but I'll be looking for more inspiration.
Anyone else who's sat down in the last year or so and re-read the books?

Yes. Very recently Doomed Hero lent me all of his source books (probably so I wouldn't have to keep bothering him) and I've spent time just going through them all. I even ordered a copy of the First edition book so I have books 1-18 and a printed copy of the Tome of Sorrows volume 1. Don't have a copy of volume 2 but I've read it before and I think it's on the sight for download.
If you have any questions I can probably help answer.

I have been wanting to do that, I might GM a Midnight game using Legends of Anglerre in the near future and I already knew my grasp of the setting was weakened. Not sure if I will manage to find time though.

Nif,
I'm not going to read them all; probably about half. There are a few I'm not fond of (city and legends) and I'm not looking for crunch (steel and against). I think I'm going to start in the far north and work down Eredane.
Luiniel, thanks for the offer. My main concerns are not repeating something already in the books or being factually wrong when I write new material.

I wanted to do just that, I usually do not read rules on my first reading, just do a quick scan of them and move on to the actual goodies.

Kane,
Wow, those are the books I'm not fond of as well. It's always nice when your opinions are backed up by outside sources.

One thing rereading does is remind me of all the editing battles. Still dismayed by some of the editing choices and how they disrupted the flow (positioning the crunch). I'd have preferred putting al the crunch in sidebars to let the fluff flow smoothly. Also enjoying reading Shadowfane's stuff.
