Rash'Gar tended to his brother to the best of his limited ability.

After seeing to Xein he turned to Flit & Wisp.

"Keep watch over him"

Still angered by the attack from the dog creature, he strode towards the others who were now around the orc.

He gave Aliya a wide berth, occasionally glaring in her direction. Squatting down he proceeded to watch the others as they dealt with the orc.

With the spirit keeping watch Aliya made Her Way to Rash`Gar. [ Getting her healing supplies out and beginning to tend to xeoins wounds. "Your loyalty to each other is a rare thing. Rash'Gar neared the Orc noting several things about him that seemed strange. First, he was not a typical Orc from the region as he did not appear to have the markings from the poison spear tribe. Instead the Gnollgren could tell that he was a blood mother infantry unit. He recalled various lectures from Lord Skinner, and knew that the Orc should be in the Northern Kaladruns, not down here in southern Erenland. He had a short red Mohawk and he has only 7 kill scars showing on his left arm. His armor and weapons are nowhere to be seen. He had been harshly lashed up to several stakes and had bruise marks all over his body, his wrists were cut and raw as if from trying to escape. His lips were cracked and dry from overexposure to the sun. His breathing is light and raspy and Rash'gar noticed that carved into his chest was something written in Black tongue. Underneath the stench of his own bile, he smelled only of Orc blood, not halfling blood. Rash'Gar could also tell that he was hanging on but not by much.

Clouse came up to inspect the Orc, momentarily checking him over, the hobgoblin stopped and stared at the word written into his chest. After a brief moment, Rash'Gar picked up a barely audible word. "Coward?"

Without so much as looking at the Orc again, Clouse turned around and marched right back to where Aliya was taking care of Xein.

Aliya was hard at work making sure the Elfling, she had been reminding herself, survived his encounter. Both the goblins were watching her work but neither had the experience to help, they glanced at each other occasionally but did not do much else either.

The bite wounds he'd received from the hell hound were deep and his pale skin was reddened and blackened with the fiery burns. His leather armor was still somewhat intact but it would need repair, she could tell. As she removed his armor, she became keenly aware that  had undergone many, many, surgical procedures. There were multiple scars covering not just his neck and over one eye, but his arms, sides, stomach, back, chest, and she could guess just about everywhere. She recognized them as having been done as though by a masterful artist in his profession. Some of them were years old, which even as she worked, made her feel like a rank amateur by comparison.

The precision of these cuts were marred by seemingly random scars from wounds that had clearly been the Elfling fighting, and she recognized whip scars. This was the work of the Sisterhood of Tender Mercies. An all female sect of Legates that she had once been offered, even encouraged to join, when she'd first been indoctrinated to the order. They were the primary sect of inquisitors within the shadow, dealing out both mercies for noted service and punishments to those who failed in their tasks or spoke against the teachings. Xein had clearly been met with punishments at some point in the recent past.

An hour came and went for her while she worked, she had done all she could for the Elfling, a superb job considering the conditions she was forced to work in. Xein a few moments after. Looking up at her. "You're not like the others... Thank you -" was all he'd managed to say before passing out again.

Clouse, shrugged his shoulders and walked close to Aliya.

"I'm sure he'll be fine now. I'll have Blanket carry him and have Lacky make sure he doesn't get eaten." he paused for a moment then continued. "The Orc that York spotted is tied to several stakes nearby. He is badly beaten, unconscious, and dying from sun exposure. He looks strong, but there is a carving on his chest, roughly translated the word means coward, in Blacktongue."

Rash'Gar pulled out his waterskin and attempted to get the bound orc to drink.

"Wisp"

"Flit"

" Search the surrounding area for signs of other orcs or humans"

He continued to watch for signs of life from the orc.

Aliya noticed the orc . To have cowad caved in your skin was plain weird to her. Maybe he was a deserter or aided the rebels but even then beheading was the likelier death. She moved a bit closer and watched him. maybe she could recall which tribe he was from . If he wakes she would have to interrogate him...

Earlier:

As Rash'Gar forced water down the Orcs throat he watched it cough and sputter weakly confirming that it was in fact still alive. His breathing steadied and became deeper.

Silence followed his question to Xein. There was nothing other than the sensation that he was still alive.

After a few minutes the Orc slowly lifted his head up, blearily opening one eye and then weakly began trying to struggle against his bonds before giving up. His gaze sharpened as he seemed to catch that Rash'Gar was still standing in front of him.

"... Huh? Wogren! No, me be in nightmare."  His eye closed and he took a deep inhale of breath as if to gather strength and Rash'Gar could tell, clench his teeth against pain. "Why no kill? Why save me?"

Shortly after Flit returned.
"No sign of Humans. But more than two fists of Orcs left here. Wisp thinks over 2 days ago."

Later:

As Aliya finished making sure she'd seen to the worst of Xein's wounds,  she got up and walked toward where Sergeant Clouse had said he'd found the Orc who'd been tied up.

When she saw his red mowhawk, she realized he was from the same Blood Mother tribe as the legendary Orc warlord, Grial the Fey Killer. While the exact details escaped her, she knew that the Blood Mother tribe was the most favored of the tribes used by King Jahzir in his armies. The odd thing was that this Orc was nowhere near either battle line against either the dreaded Elves in their forest home, nor in the Northern Kaldaruns where treacherous Dwarves lived.

"Heh..."The Orc let out a pained laugh.  "It mean no honor. My commander killed in fight with Halflings. Vericks took power... Ordered to kill small ones, mother wives, and weak. No honor. Halfling Warriors and Wogren dead. I refuse." He lowered his head to his chest with a grimace.

"Vericks had good laugh. Beaten. Marked. Left to die. Vericks kill them then. Thought Fell eat... or just starve. " The Orc seemed strained after that.

The orc caught himself from hitting the ground too hard but he was still mostly a wreck beyond that. He rested for a bit as the two Goblins came over. Both looked at each other and for a moment there was an unspoken conversation between the two.

An oppressor of theirs, weakened and wounded at their feet. They were both stronger than they had ever been. It would be so easy.

Wisp's eyes gleamed with malicious intent, but a sharp intake of breath from Flit who flitted his eyes to two sides and made a small movement of his hand stayed the other goblin's hand. Instead the two set about to see what they could do for the Orc. Flit took his waterskin and dumped half of its contents onto the Orcs sun burned skin while Wisp threw him a torn Halfling shirt to use as a towel. It didn't appear to help much. They gave him a little bit of their food and water. The orc ate it quickly.

After a few minutes, he pulled himself off the ground. He was still  a bit unsteady but already being free of his restraints, fed and watered, and given a few minutes to rest had seemed to restore quite a bit more of his lucidity. He made his way over near Rash'Gar,  "What now, Wogren-man?"

She could see the Orc now stood with Rash'Gar with his back to Aliya, he was definitely alive and looked in pain, but he was standing so clearly not too much. Around her now, were her allies scattered here and there, forming a loose perimeter. Sergeant Clouse and his men were simply waiting for their Legate to give orders or for something more to happen. The signs of fighting were around but everything was quiet now. A few dead bodies lay scattered but little else moved. She heard the Orc gruffly speaking to Rash'Gar but it was difficult to make out what was being said.

Rash'Gar looked the orc up & down.

Pointing to his own chest "Rash'Gar"

Ponting to each of the goblins,

 "Flit"

"Wisp"

The orc nodded as Rash'Gar named himself, then did a double-take as he named the two goblins.

"You give them name? Huh?"

After a moment he shook his head as though to clear it, then he thumped himself in the chest. "Sardric. I listen." He hesitated a moment before setting his jaw. "I obey... what task?"

Sardric looked down at the items, clearly a moment of discontent passed across his face as there was no vardatch. He then let out a deep breath and picked up the sword, spear, and dagger. Strapping the blade to his side, putting the dagger through his belt and then grabbing the spear which he used partly as a walking stick.

"Ready to move." he said looking to Rash'Gar for direction.

Aliya soon arrived, flanked by Red and Clouse.

Sardric eyed them. "You Legate bodyguard?" he asked before looking back and bowing his head momentarily to Aliya.

His demeanor changed as he looked over at Aliya"Legate." He became less immediately threatening. "You far from home? Have not seen one in some time."

Clouse snapped his fingers and Red stepped in front of Aliya, planting his tower shield in front of him, making sure to block the most direct line between the Legate and the Orc. From in the bushes about 40 feet off to the side, York suddenly popped up drawing his bow.

"Don't like your tone. Show more reverence."

"Legate is far." Sardric said, shrugging his shoulders and looking at Aliya. "Why out here?"

Aliya regarded the orc carefully. He was brandmarked as a coward in the  black speech and left to die. that was unusioal. so was the fact that he spoke colonial.  She could work with it.  " You know  Rash`Gar already. I am Legate Aliya Arvalor, this  next to me is Sergeant Clouse.  You said you haven`t seen one of my order in a while . You will tell me what happened here and why you were marked in such a unusual manner. We may be able to aid you in redemming yourself"  The bait was out time to see if the orc took it.

The orc looked down at his chest and then over at Sergeant Clouse before he glanced over at Rash'Gar. He pointed to his chest. "Sardric. Moved to Poison Spear clan from eastern front in Kaladruns. Commanders say I was eager but wasn't tough enough. Poison Spears were small slaver tribe. I was replacement for dead fist sergeant.

We hunt Halflings. They tricky but not very strong, their beasts however are. We killed them and warriors. Our commander died in fight. Specialist Veriks took over. We find rest of halfling tribe in hidden village. But instead of capture, we told to kill all. I argue that there were no warriors left, no honor to be had. Veriks laugh, call me coward and order others to beat me unconscious. I woke with word carving into me. Veriks had handful of Halflings, he killed them in front of me, no beheading, left to become Fell. Too weak to struggle, was left for dead."

Aliya considered what the orc said. "If you are telling the truth then your only crime was not afreenig to a disastrous plan.  As long as you dont sympathise with the enemy or were a deserter i dont have a problem. But in matters direktly involving millitary and warfare i would like Sergeant clouses option in the matter."

Clouse regarded the Orc Sardric carefully before seeming to nod to himself about something.

"I think we should take him with us, Legate Aliya. The capture of the dwarven fortress of Durgis Rock, took much heavier losses than expected. Not that Legate Jael cared about that. There were no survivors among the Orcish battalion left to garrison it afterward and therefore none to send with us after the band of outlaws. Although the Hobgoblin said his words as though in casual conversation, it was obvious to Aliya's trained senses that he did not favor this Jael.

Having an Orc, even one such as him, brings a certain amount of prestige among the common citizenry that a lone traveling Legate would gain. We'll just have to ensure his scar isn't noticed by those who know what it means or we'd lose that benefit." the sergeant cracked his neck and looked at the Orc in the eye. Aliya could feel it then, when Clouse directed his attention and began to give orders. In those moments, he stopped being just another hobgoblin, and instead became an immediate inspiration to all who could see and hear him.

"From here out, you follow my commands and that of Legate Aliya. You are no longer a Fist Sergeant but you will serve her. Any prestige we gain goes to her. Serve well and you shall share in that. Fail, and you will be discarded permanently. Do you understand, soldier?"

The effect was immediate, despite the Orcs obvious wounds and fatigue, his training kicked in as he took commands readily. The goblin Red, seemed to become more prominent in his bearing as well. They stood up straighter, eyes became sharper, and they became more lucid to their surroundings. Even Aliya found herself swept up in the moment.

"Sir, of course! Sir!"

"Good."

"It seems we'll gain little else from remaining here too long, Legate Aliya. Unless you wish to make this place a campsite for the day."

The more she heard about this Jael the less Aliya liked him. To not care about his men is a foolisch trait and invited betrayal. The beaten dog is more likely to bite than a well treated one that is a fundamental ting often too overloked by many of her order. With that in mind she looked at Sardric. " Sardic say are you perhabts from here or have long enough served in ths area. If so would you let Rashgar ór Sergeant Clouse know if there are places of strategic value. Hideouts including ruins, shortcuts of importance, Towns and villages with a high count of insurgents or placews where criminals could deal with countrabands. Even Placesthat could be targets for raids. Anithing of that naturecould be of use, even hear say.   If She was in luck the orc might know some insurgents rats net they could be heading to it would make travelling esier and be more effective than fishing in the light.

Sardric looked thoughtful for a moment.

"Old fort, to the east. Not too distant. Broken, abandoned, maybe haunted. Old captain thought so anyway. Saw it, never went in.

Towns... three, no... only two now. Both nearby. Farming, human, err, Erenlander. One west. Called Wellspring. They cowed sheep there. Another, northwest. Hornblower's Hill. More farmers. To the north is our prime return point. The port Erenhead, tightly controlled by Hobgoblins and bureaucratic humans. Western fort along Eren river, Redway. There's a temple of Legates and it's patrolled by an orcish garrison. Then a trading post run by gnomes. Swift water. It's patrolled as well by an orcish garrison."

While the others talked, Rash'Gar strode to the edge of the clearing.

Concentrating in the direction ahead of them he sought any kind of mental touch with those he tracked.

After some time he motioned silently to Wisp and Flit to move ahead and scout the path forward.

He then turned to await the decision of the Legate.

Aliya considered her options. The western route was the unlikeliest in her mind.   . if her theory was right they would have come from there, surely the witch would not want to run back in the arms of her jailor. So that was out. The farming willages were a possibility but again not likely. Farmers were a superstitious lot and even if they sympathised wit the insurgents they would never house a unknown witch. Especially when it is known she has legates on her tail. That leaves the old fort to the east the best option."Unless Rash´Gar has a found a trail  indecating otherwise we will move eastward to the fort."

It was strange for Rash'Gar. He had never had to worry about much else for his life. He had been bonded to his brother Xein for nearly as long as he could remember. But then somehow that night during the wagon chase, he'd been bonded to another Elfling, Ivy.  When Xein was conscious, his mind was in the forefront. But now that he was unconscious, Ivy's mind seemed to come to the forefront.

Even as the goblins wandered off after receiving his orders, his sharpened senses picked up the conversation between Legate Aliya and the orc Sardric behind him, but it was difficult for him to discern exactly what was being said. Fortunately, the closest thing he could understand and also the first thing he and Xein had been made to learn in any language were directions and locations. "Eastward, fort."

That seemed wrong to him.

It was nothing discernible, not like the sense of direction, emotion, or words he could share with his brother. Just a feeling that he'd be getting further away by heading eastward.

Rash'Gar waited for the two goblin trackers to return and report.

When they finally returned he pointed to in the direction his senses were pulling him.

With a quick check of his gear he signaled to Flit and Wisp and they moved out as a unit, scouting ahead of the main group.

As Rash'Gar waited, the rest of the group gathered and readied themselves to move.

Flit and Wisp came quietly their way back into camp. They began to

"Trapper tracks go north. Other tracks go east and west." But his senses were directing him.

Around this time, Clouse came over, but Rash'Gar was moving away. "Legate Aliya says we're heading east... Rash'Gar." The hobgoblin then hurried back to Aliya.

"The scouts are heading west now. I didn't really have any time to talk to them. But it seems like Rash'Gar knows where we're going. Unless you want to order us to turn around and head towards the fort..." Clouse was thoughtful for a moment. "He's really not much for words is he? Usually it was Xein who did the talking. But until that Elfling wakes up I really have no idea what he's thinking."
