So which of the Sisters is the young Alyssa Milano? As long as I get to be John Ritter. DH can be Don Knotts.

Wow, so many references there that have no place being together. And Our group dynamic certainly is an interesting one.. I don't think anyone will ever be the boss.

Well I think we are going to be segmented into Decision makers and the skilled freaks. The non-legates will probably have to hang back and wait for the legates to need help.... unless we have a power struggle.

It certainly would be interesting to see who would side with who and how they would go about convincing others that the orders they give should be followed rather than the other Legates.  I'll say that right now Xein would probably follow Riddar simply because he is being the most direct and assertive of the Legates.

I don't think I've ever seen a group so excitedly plan interparty conflict before.

Well we're the bad guys and the majority of the group consists of four charismatic Legates who are of differing sects of the hierarchy with very different motivations and superiors of their own.  The best thing is no one really knows what the others unspoken motivations and goals are.  Meanwhile the rest of us are caught in the middle without a trump card of our own to play.  Except for Kael who has a trump card and is at an early advantage since his older brother Jael is in command of this camp.

As for in-game things, I'm pushing for not waiting.

(click to show/hide)

Kjellan, you aren't there. You've already run off to the falls.

Legate group, please give the other group time to post once or twice to set the scene.

Mountain crew, feel free to improvise. I'd imagine that Clouse and Dunk are arguing about who's workers are getting in who's way.

Marakal, we're introducing another player who will be playing King Blanket. I'd like to introduce him now, so feel free to jump into the middle of a conversation with him regarding the work you're directing.

Roger that. You may need to PM when you're ready to introduce Kjellan into a scene, as I don't necessarily check in on a regular basis.

Just so we're clear-

legates rarely travel in groups. Members of different sects rarely cooperate with each other.

It's impossible to tell which order Illustrian is from. He just looks like a "generic legate". Likewise with Riddar. He's not obviously a soldier legate. He's just a big knight. If his helm is up, he looks very pale. Anyone with Knowledge Shadow who can take ten and get a 15+ recognizes that as a sign of one of the Dark Blessings.

The Sisters on the other hand are quite obviously Sisters, and Sisters are terrifying to everyone. They are like the Shadow's internal affairs. When they show up, anyone and everyone is on trial. Questions get asked. People get tortured. Even Legates get executed. Sisters are well known for making messy, terrible examples.

One is bad. Two is a goddamn nightmare.

You know I just want to say I am having more fun in this game then I have ever had in a play by post. I'm happy with the story as well as well as my co-players. After playing a midnight campaign for 2 or so years, in another game, it's hard to let it go but I have to say this campaign feels more like the midnight game I'll consider my own personal "Cannon"

So thank you DH for giving us an awesome game and thanks to my co-players. I'll try to generate some more quick art to keep everyone else interested.

So, made my humble first entrance.

I don't plan to play the character *that* comically, but I couldn't resist.

King Blanket is likely... A superbrute pet, as I see him. Like a dobermann. Just dumber.

Hey Noir, not bad for your first in-game post but you may want to read over Doomed Heroes posting guidelines.   The idea is for the text to flow like you're reading a story.  Your descriptive text mostly reads in a present tense, "The big man-thing's eyes blink with ostensive curiosity, as he fixes first the Legate," we want it to read more past tense "The big man-thing's eyes blinked with ostensive curiosity, as he fixed first the Legate,".  Small difference I know but it's something to be aware of.  Also stating future facts "The conversation will be interrupted" is something we try to avoid as well.

The conversation will be interrupted by a wave of foul-smelling air.

An ogre, naked, and quite obviously male, has wandered by the scene and stopped to watch, with obvious curiousity.

Stinking attrociously, but otherwise quiet, he contends to stand by, quite relaxedly chewing on a snack he has made for himself...

An unfortunate rat, through whose mouth a long stick was driven, just long enough to serve the ogre as an impromptu meat popsickle.

The big man-thing's eyes blink with ostensive curiosity, as he fixes first the legate, and then Kael with his gaze.

...And lingers there. Hungrily.

Here's an example on how this could be rewritten.

The ground shook and a wave of foul smelling air washed over the group as an Ogre, naked, and quite obviously male wandered by the scene and stopped to watch with obvious but dull curiosity.  Stinking atrociously, but otherwise quiet, he contented himself to stand by, relaxedly chewing on what appeared to be an unfortunate rat, through whose mouth a long stick was driven to serve the Ogre as an impromptu meat popsicle.  King Blankets eyes blinked with ostensive curiosity as his gaze moved through the group, focusing first on the black armored Legate, and then moving to Kael where it lingered.  Hungrily.

Feel free to use or ignore this as you see fit.

Pretty much what he said ^

The original format was Present Tense, but we decided to change it to be more novel-like. We've been using Past tense for quite a while now.

My basic posting advice is, try to make it seem as much like a seamless novel as possible.

If you don't mind, give me an edit of your last post. (overall, great first impression though).

I'll do a quick edit, then. Smiley And, thanks!

Are we cutting away from me? or is this a scene that will transition back and forth between conversations?

Also if we are going to stick with the others for a bit I don't mind but clouse would lobby for support for his mission, perhaps an Ogre? This would be a good opritunity to get him some action.

This can all effectivly happen "Off camera"

You can respond in game if you'd like. The scenes are happening right next to each other.

Bad idea to let goblins take charge of an ogre. Generally, it's a recipe for dead goblins and a loose ogre.

Small issue: I did get the updates last week, but none over the weekend.

Am I the only one having this issue?

This is something the Kings of Shadow, or whatever you call the admins here Wink might want check.

Also, finally, the Midnight core book arrived in the mail today! Grin Woot!

Hey Noir, hate to rain on your post but the words eldritch and death were written as thoughts inside Xeins mind, as opposed to the word "Izrador" spoken out loud by Roycillo.

It's a difficult to notice the difference at first. The thoughts inside a characters mind are usually slightly smaller and slanted to the side and do not have the quotation marks.  "Meanwhile the spoken words will have them and appear straight and blocky."
