The Other Dark God

« on: May 13, 2010, 01:35:02 PM »

I am in the late stages of preparing for a Midnight campaign, and one of the "bluesheets" that I wrote was the following.  What would the Order of Shadow's message be to those who were wary of Izrador's conquest?  Here's my game's answer.

The Propaganda of the Order of Shadow

“Before the Sundering, Izrador the Great was a god of magic and of questing. The old gods were
afraid that his power would grow beyond their ability to compete, and so they decided to betray
him. The old gods tried to destroy Izrador, but they failed; instead they crippled him and
imprisoned him here on Aryth.

“In his crippled state, Izrador is called the Shadow because he is merely a shadow of his former
glory. He dwells in darkness now and is sometimes called the Dark One to remind us that he is
trapped away from the light of heaven.

“The Shadow was never a god of evil, nor is he now. He desires only to return to his rightful
place in the heavens. The only way that he can regain enough strength to break free from his
prison and undo the Sundering is to have enough worshippers. Those who choose to follow the
Dark One do credit to themselves and the whole world as well.

“When this world is rejoined to the heavens, the plague of Fell will end, and the old gods will
return to give aid to their faithful, and Izrador will greatly reward those of his followers who
aided him with his return to the halls of heaven.

“The Elves and the Dwarves are blinded by their primitive and limited faith in the old gods.
They do not realize that by helping Izrador, they would be helping the entire world. Instead, they
choose to do everything in their power to keep the Shadow trapped on Aryth, keep the plague of
Fell, keep the old gods silent to their most earnest prayers.

“If the minions of the Shadow cause harm to those who are not members of the church, it is only
because they are so eager to reverse the calamity which was caused by the old gods so long ago.
It may be possible for the Shadow to re-ascend to glory within the lifetimes of some of those who
are alive today.”
