Blood-Syphoning (Su): Through the path of the Syphon Christine has learned how to drain power from fresh and strong targets. By spending three points of spell energy and making a successful melee touch attack, she can deliver a siphoning blow to her enemy. This affects the target exactly like a vampiric touch spell, except the target also loses 1d4+3 in spell point energy, which are gained by Christine. This ability cannot extract spell energy from creatures with no spell energy, and never causes Con damage. Christine can use a melee weapon or an unarmed attack to deliver the blow.

Death Knell (Sp): Christine can use death knell twice per day as a spell-like ability. In addition to the normal effects of the spell, she can absorb 1d4 points of bonus spell energy from the target. She can store an amount of bonus spell energy in excess of her own spell energy up to 6 points. This spell energy vanishes when the death knell effect expires. This ability works even on creatures without the Magecraft feat.

Deathwatch (Sp): Christine has the supernatural ability to she the darkening shadow of death. She can use deathwatch twice per day as a spell-like ability. Unlike other spell-like abilities, however, she can activate deathwatch additional times per day by spending one point of spell energy each time.

Magic Hardened (Ex): Christine has an innate resistance to magic that lets her shrug off effects that would effect others. She gets a +2 bonus vs. all saving throws against magical effects.

Appearance and Personality: Christine is an unattractive woman. Her features are pretty enough at first glance with her sharp cheekbones and ample cleavage. With greater attention to detail her faults shine through. Her red hair is greasy and stringy; she keeps it always tied back with a leather strap in a ponytail. Her throat is scarred with the markings of a failed hanging attempt. But the feature that draws the most attention is her eyes. These dark spheres water constantly and protrude slightly from her face giving her a bloated appearance.

She was born to the Markei family in Eisen. They were all slaves to the Orcish tribes that ruled the city. She toiled along side her family for most of her younger years in the timber mills enduring hardship after hardship while building crude orcish ships. In her teenage years her family was told to pack their belongings, they would be moving to another city to work for the Shadows armies.

They never made it. The caravan they were traveling with was raided by Caransil elves. The Shadow’s mercenaries were able to beat back the fey but not before most of the slaves were freed. Christine, unlike her family, was able to elude the Orc guard’s attempts to round up the slaves. She caught up with the retreating raiders and returned with them to the Caraheen. The fey moved her to a refugee camp sheltered deep in the forest where she was expected to work to support the war against the Shadow. Christine was not satisfied with repairing leatherwork and growing crops, she wanted to strike back at the Shadow.

Her persistence paid off when the elves allowed her to train with their soldiers. They were surprised and delighted to find that she was an natural fighter. Quick on her feet and intelligent she excelled. Christine’s skill at fighting unarmed was encouraged and she learned under one of the Caransil defenders. Her aptitude for the arcane arts was also noticed and encouraged.

The constant need for soldiers meant that Christine’s training was cut short and she was rotated to the Front. She spent several months on the front lines fighting the Shadow’s soldiers until she was captured. Her patrol was ambushed and she was wounded severely during the battle. The elves assumed that she was dead and retreated without her, overwhelmed by the Shadow’s orcs. Christine was brutalized by the orcs that captured her, and after they had their amusement they hung her by the neck from the crude gallows that they camped under. She struggled and fought until she grew weary and started to strangle. The sadistic orcs would prop her up under a block of wood, allowing her to breathe and rest. Then without warning they would kick the block away and she would strangle again.

This continued for several days while she slipped in and out of consciousness. She continued to fight against death and since this also amused the orc soldiers they continued the game. A patrolling soldier legate, camping in the area, noticed Christine and how she refused to die.
When he was told by the orcs that she was a captured resistance fighter the Legates took her into his custody as a prisoner. For Christine it went from bad to worse. The Legate had a project in mind that she would be perfect for. A project that would advance his position and gain the Shadow a powerful ally. At the moment however he wanted all the information that she had on the Resistance. Since she was unwilling to volunteer the information, stronger methods were required.

As everyone eventually does, her will broke after days of torture. The lack of sleep, the white-hot branding irons, and the constant questioning was more than she could resist. Christine answered all of the legates’ questions. The location of the elven camp, the number of soldiers, their plans of defense, everything that she knew, she told. The information that she provided allowed the soldier legates to led several successful raids that killed many of the elven defenders and forced the surviving fey deeper into the forest.

Christine expected to be killed, she welcomed the thought of a quick death after she had betrayed she friends and fellow soldiers. One of the soldier legates decided that was a waste of her talents. She was shackled to his command tent and forced to serve food and drinks to the officer legates. The legates were fairly kind to her and she never lacked for the basics of life. It was a mark of pride to the Legate that a former resistance fighter was his slave. Months passed and she resigned herself to being a slave again, it wasn’t so bad she told herself.

What she didn’t know was that her kind Legate owner was drugging her. A subtle drug that makes a person more susceptible to suggestion and weakens the will. The constant drugging allowed the Legates to remold her personality. The Legates has banded together with a project to get them noticed by their seniors. They believed that with a weakened mind and the right divine magics the will could be broken and replaced with a mind more favorable to Izrador. Christine was the first test subject.

She was constantly drugged and the tortures began again. She was much more susceptible to suggestion now and her will broke easily. Using divine magic the legates erased most of her old personality and memories. Allowed to detox and heal she was told that her suffered a head wound fighting the elves that had caused her to lose memories. They created a false life for Christine that she never had reason to question. The freedom fighter became one of the oppressors.

Christine excelled in her new life, her past forgotten she turned on those that she was once allied with. Her arcane skills flourished under the teachings of corrupted channelers. After several months on the Western front she was assigned to a special squad that hunted channelers. She was uniquely qualified for the job. Her abilities at close combat and knowledge of magic led to the capture of dozens of renegade channelers. Christine tortured these fellow arcanists without mercy taking the opportunity to drain every ounce of knowledge from their minds before turning them over to the Order of the Shadow. The collective knowledge of these tortured channelers gave her power and eldritch knowledge beyond her years. One of the captured arcanists was also a Syphon. In return for the promise of being released he taught her the powers and methods of the Syphons. When she had wrung all of his secrets she killed him as well.

Her successes at killing channelers and growing arcane power did not go unnoticed. A certain Ogre Magi Legate had her reassigned into his group of mercenaries. Her divination skills and incredible magical power coupled with her hand-to-hand combat abilities have made her one of the most valuable members of his team.
