First and most importantly: I'm not naming names or giving any more specific information, but the Midnight RPG is not dead.

Secondly, I picked up the Midnight Chronicles DVD. AFAIK it has all the items DTRPG has, but I'll list what the case says is here:

DVD
- Featurette: From Game to Film: The Making of Midnight Chronicles
- Visual Effects Breakdown
- Deleted Scenes

DVD-ROM
- PDF of the final shooting script
- PDF of the complete Midnight 2nd Edition roleplaying game core book
- An exclusive roleplaying adventure module for use with the Dungeons & Dragons roleplaying game, set in the locales of the Midnight Chronicles.

"The Midnight Chronicles adventure module is intended for use with the 4th Edition Dungeons & Dragons Roleplaying Game and requires the use of the D&D Player's Handbook, Monster Manual, Dungeon Master's Guide, Player's Handbook 2, and Adventurer's Vault core rulebooks, available from Wizards of the Coast, LLC."

Both I and FFG will be here for another two days, so if there's anything you'd like me to check out please ask.

Thanks for the report, Glacialis. That's encouraging news, about the RPG not being dead (but that having been said, it's not like I need new material to keep my game alive).  So if you're not going to break the silence, when and where might we expect an announcement to be made about the setting's future?

That I don't know. I wasn't given anything specific, just several unsubtle hints since they couldn't officially say anything.

Not like this is sekrit news or anything, just something to give us hope. Smiley

What the hell is with the media blackout from FFG? We've been in the dark about what's going on with Midnight since production on Veil and Shadow dropped off almost a year ago. Why would the not want to tell their fanbase what the future of the product they hope to sell to them looks like?

They probably don't have anything for sure. Its most likely still up in the air. The lack of any date for anouncement is key proof of that. if anything this seems like stalling.

Since the adventure is 4th edition, can you find out if FFG is going to stay with that rule set or move to something else (Patfinder, warhammer, etc)?

Kane, that's something I specifically can't get info on. All I know is that something is in the works, but it feels like the deal's not done yet so there may be legal or contractual issues to sort out yet.

Thanks again, Glacialis.

I, for one, feel that FFG could learn alot from Paizo's approach to customer relations and communications. Even if NDAs currently prevent them from giving info about specific projects, the least they could do is come out and say that themselves. The fans made the setting the success it has been, and the fan base ultimately suggested that the setting might generate enough broader interest that FFG even made a movie out of it -- for them to be completely ignored for more than a year is simply poor business practice on the part of FFG, IMO. And for that reason, while Midnight remains my favourite campaign setting (for the time being), as a game publisher Paizo commands far more respect and loyalty from me.

Damn straight. I'm not saying that they come to us in particular and make a statement ... just something in general. 'We're working on something but it's up in the air."

Poor communication with their fanbase ... Paizo has been much more impressive in that regard. Hell, Palladium has been better.

I too agree with TwiceBorn.

I've not had much experience with contacting other companies, but I did contact FFG several times over the years and it was always lacking...

This and the fact that Dark Sun is the next setting means that midnight will most likely be using the 4th edition ruleset, there are many similarities between dark sun and Midnight in terms of grimness and grittiness. Wink
