Yes, Dark Sun, and not any dark sun but theya re going back to the originalk boxed set timeline too! This will prove how gritty 4th edition can be. Wink

I too agree with TwiceBorn.

I've not had much experience with contacting other companies, but I did contact FFG several times over the years and it was always lacking...

My current irritant, and this may seem petty, is that I pre-ordered the DVD from FFG on July 26. They charged my card on that same day. The release date has come and gone, yet the status of my order remains "pending." Yes, I know, they closed the shop and all went to GenCon, and won't be back until the 19th of August. But couldn't they have mailed the pre-ordered DVDs a few days before the release date, like Paizo did with their pre-ordered Pathfinder RPGs? I mean, come on, I live in Canada, it's not like the thing would arrive on my doorstep the same day and spoil the surprise for others. Certainly defeated the purpose of pre-ordering, and of paying nearly twice the cost of the DVD to have it shipped from the US. May as well have waited for it to be available in stores here... Not a big deal, I suppose, but it's certainly not doing much to endear me to FFG, and to encourage me to go with a new edition of the game, if that's what they end up doing...

Grumble grumble...

End of rant...

FFG was never a customer friendly company on that regard, sadly.

Me, I'm settling in to watch my downloaded movie this evening. Probably gonna hook it up to the giant monitor in the living room, and subject everyone to our combined hopes and fears about it.

And yes, of course, I ordered the DVD too. Here's hoping it show up at some point in the next month.

I must say that I too think that Midnight will go 4th Ed. Of course, I'm disappointed. I had my hopes that FFG will support Pathfinder.

I must say that I too think that Midnight will go 4th Ed. Of course, I'm disappointed. I had my hopes that FFG will support Pathfinder.

They aren't necessarily mutually exclusive. The GSL prohibits publishers from simultaneously publishing material under both the OGL and GSL. Pathfinder is not OGL material. They have very firmly and cleverly avoided that entanglement.

Which means that there is a small chance that we might see official material for both systems.

Of course, even if FFG doesn't go the pathfinder route, I'd imagine that it would be a fairly simple thing to do pathfinder fan-conversions of any midnight material published under 4e. Paizo doesn't have the same fan-site restrictions that WOTC does, and as long as we don't directly reference any 4e system material we don't violate any of the legal-eze of the GSL.

Essentially, WOTC only owns the rights to the  4e and 3.5 systems, not the source material that uses them. As long as FFG doesn't have a problem with fan conversions (which it never has before), and we clearly state that our rules conversions are intended for use with the Pathfinder RPG (and not D&D 3.5) we are in the clear to use the setting however we want to.

Yeah, I know. But... I don't know. Somehow, conversion doesn't have the same feel to it.  We have to wait and see, I suppose.

Actually Pathfinder must be OGL or they can't use anything from the SRD at all.

I have to chime in and say that this news is both great and distressing.  Midnight and Dark Sun are my two favorite settings and yet I can't stand 4E.  I guess I can see the possibility that it might fit Dark Sun, but Midnight?  Looks like I will be doing a lot of conversion in the years ahead.

They don't. They have essentially revised everything. The names are sometimes the same, but everything is either worded differently (and often more clearly) or has been mechanically altered. There is actually a Pathfinder specific SRD that is in the works.

I've gotten to look through the new book (it's awesome, btw) and there hasn't been a single cut-and-paste mechanic or description anywhere.

Thing is anything derived from the SRD must be open itself thus OGL, the OGl is the SRD license not the D20 license. Wink

And yes, welcome aboard alemander

DVD finally shipped today... no actual reply to my e-mail, though, no apologies, no explanation, nothing.
