So my gaming group has gotten around to Midnight and I'm running it. They've decided that running an evil campaign would be a good change after more heroic games so after character creation we end up with ...

Grull, 5th level Erenlander Soldier Legate with the Trollborn villainous path.
David Beerwalker, 5th level Erenlander Channeler with the Dragonblooded heroic path.
Caldien Javair, 3rd level Erenelander Soldier Legate/2nd level Wildlander with the Taintborn villainous path.
Kistur, 5th level Snow Elf Legate with the Demon blooded villainous path.

I'll be posted stats and the like up here for people to see.

I started them part way through a mission into the Plague Hills outside of Baden's Bluff. Unable to dodge an assignment from on high the Snow Elf legate with his Soldier bodyguards and his pet channeler are taking magical aura samples from three necromantic confluxes within the Plague Hills.

The, short, first session found the Snow Elf NPC'ed because of his player not showing up and the bodyguard characters running the show. They tracked the first 'NC' to a twisted tree on a high hill fat with dangling corpses. They had just starting taking readings when the Fell started to rush up the hill.

More to come.

Second Session - Plague Hills Investigation

So this session was quite short, several of the players had to work late. Working together they fought off the Fell attack. Kistur, who was NPC'ed last game handed off the 'MacGuffin', the aura detector, to David, who is NPC'ed this game. This lead to David being jumped by multiple Fell who overpowered him and stole off with the detector. Caldien and her Hadukur mount put a swift end to that.

Getting the readings after the battle they left the hangman's tree behind and headed out to the second of the three Necromantic Confluxes.

Alternate rules

Weapon Groups from Unearthed Arcana - Much easier to handle than proficiencies.
Defense Bonus from Unearthed Arcana - Good representation of a skilled fighters ability not to get hit.
Armor as Damage Reduction from Torn Asunder - Armor keeps you from getting hurt, not making you harder to hit.
Tiered Legates from ATS.org - I like it better ... from this site.
Villainous Paths from ATS.org - Good within the theme of the game.
Reduced Skill List from Pathfinder - Minimizes what can become a massive skill list.

Third Session - Plague Hills Investigation

They trace down the source of the second aura to a small overgrown city in the hills. A previously abandoned city that villager had been squatting in since the coming of the Shadow. The source of hte aura was in a small courtyard that took some doing to get to because of collapsed buildings.

That let me get them in a nice tight pocket to limit their mobility.

That's when I hit them with a Necromental from Liber Mortis. Basically its a elemental, earth in this case, that has been infected with large amounts of necromantic energy.

Grull stepped up to tank while Caldien scattered to range ... she uses a great bow ... and David settled back to buff Grull.

This worked until they found that the creature inflicted CON damage on failed saves and it had a DR of 12.

Then they fucked me good ... they started casting Cure spells on the Necromental. It's undead, so healing spells will harm it and it bypasses DR.

They put it down and camped out for the night. Hidden in the ruins of the creature was a baroque lantern made of brass. Kistur detected auras of Conjuration and Necromancy but Caldien's astirax detected no magic. Divine magic in other words.

Picking up their gear they headed out to the third, and final, necromantic conflux.

Fourth Session - Plague Hills Investigation

They traced down the source of the third necromantic conflux, a manor house deep in the hills. The house was still occupied by one of the original Legates that caused the experiment that destroyed all life in the Hills area. The PC's fought down his Fell Orcs and Soldier Legate bodyguard to find the Legate, skeletal, and kneeling in front of a strange purplish crystal. A full on Nexus Point.

So ... then the decision. Do they turn over the Nexus to the Order of Shadow to be drained for the glory of Iz, or keep it to exploit themselves.

In the grand tradition of PC's every where they choice to keep it to themselves.

I'm sure this will end well for them.
