After looking at it a little more closely, I just don't think I have that kind of patience. I totally couldn't do something, then wait a month and a half to see how it turned out. Looks like fun on a grand scale, but I think I'll have to content myself with Civilization IV.   Cool

Well I traded the Saa'Vend Nation for the Free Cities of Raunach. Jumping right in after a war in my region from my northern neighbor. Much more exciting having more to work with. I've only been in charge of Ruanach for a few days and the interaction with my neighbors has been great. Already planning some smack down of the bully to the north. So far the two people I've had the most contact with are Joel (Ahum) and Allen (Virityal) and I must say they have both been extremely helpful. We have an alliance and need each other to survive. I am looking forward to the results of the next turn. Have to get used to being patient while waiting for the turn to process.

Not having enough complications in the game, i decided to take on a second position (allowable by the GM only if they are far enough apart so that they do not influence one another).

I took Mogodor (see the map of the area). It is a sort of Mongolian nation of humans with neighbors all around. If you are wondering what's that Island with all the skulls to my south well that's the The Lichdom of Erdiyek ruled by the Lich-King Kuan Li Jiang. He thinks he is the Ruler of the World and sends his undead ship to nations around him demanding tribute.

Yhea, I though it might be interesting to move to a neighborhood with a Lich. He's real fun at parties...

At any rate, there are plenty of new positions available, and 3-4 more will be added over the next few days i believe. Plus, Scott (GM) is going through turns like a demon lately... hope that keeps up. Smiley

Really, you should check it out and join the fun.

I agree with Arnon. There are several good positions available for next turn. If I could swing a third position I surely would. You really should take a look. Reading some of the archived newsfaxes is a good way to get hooked on an open position.

I've been very busy these last few weeks (moving to a new apartment) that I did not have the time to "mourn" the passing of L54.

I originally thought that i will not get back to a Lords game soon... but then my friend stated talking about the LOTE game he joined, Lords 24, and the more he talked about his new position and I looked at the map, the more I wanted to take a part of the game.  Smiley

At any rate it will probably only be in a month or two.

I joined up L24 after L54. While it doesn'nt have the fantasy element that L54 had I still had the opportunity to run a large country. It has been as much fun as L54 and helped me learn even more. If you are looking for a fantasy campaign similar to L54 check out Cruenti Dei. There are very few openings but it still has dragons, elves, flying castles etc. The rules are very similar to LOTE and the GM is a former Lords GM. The turn around time is good in both Cruenti Dei and L24.

In L24 I am The Kingdom of Thaton in the East and The Anacletan Order in the west.

Cruenti Dei ,Sardarthion Press http://www.sardarthion.com/?page_id=42

Cruenti Dei Forums   http://www.sardarthion.com/cruentidei/agora/index.php

In Cruenti Dei I am the Mark of Orofer, a nation of elves, half elves and humans. on the Oratoan continent. The newsfax is closed right now due to the southern continent of Sahul is exploring and must find out about us as they go. It should be opened up in the next turn or two.

Jester, could you provide some little bit of more info on Cruenti Dei? (a friend also tried to join the forums but was not approved yet)

What's the turn around?
How are the rules different from LOTE (general lines)?
What's the overall quality? (there is a huge difference between the L54 to L24 newsfax)

And anything else you might think that might lure me into this Wink

Thanks,

Arnon, I sent you a pm containig the following. After sending I decided to edit it a bit and post here anyway. By the way because of your first post about LOTE you got me interested in L54 and I am most grateful.

Hello Xxxx, Your name was one I recognized from the LOTE campaigns I am currently in. How do you like Cruenti Dei ? I am going to try it out in Oratoa. I was just wondering how similar/dissimilar it is compared to LOTE? Thanks for your time.

"Hi!  Welcome to the game.  It is similar, but in some ways simpler (smaller rulebook, not so heavy into religious / intel aspects and less possible leader actions etc).  Your leaders have a lot less movement to do things in despite the five year turns (roughly one years ap from a LOTE perspective), and critical resources such as nfp and ap are a bit harder to increase versus LOTE.  So it can be a bit slower than LOTE, i.e. no invading and taking a nation out in one turn easily.  Nfp only increases by gaining more regions at friendly status (no add for pwb or cities), and colonization cost is paid differently but ends up roughly similar or less depending on what you do.  AP is an additional cost and limiter.  Generally it's easy to grow your economy enough with international trade (much simpler than LOTE as well) to have enough gp to buy what your ap/nfp can afford.  Richer nations (which often means those with lots of trade partners - there is a limit to trade income, max of twice all your other income sources) thus have decent amounts of gold often to invest in stats, but they won't necessarily be able to turn that huge gold income into much greater nfp/ap production.

Thom tends to try and create balanced geo-political situations and then toss in outside events that cause problems.  So down here in Sahul the ice is moving north driving out populations and threatening eventual death to most of the positions if unstopped.  This will create problems for you in the north as relocating north is going to be the exit strategy for a lot of positions here.  This is a magical/fantasy setting, so he has all sorts of nastiness from minor dieties, interdimensional gates, vampires, liches, multiple races and religions, etc.  Not that those will happen, they just may happen.  The last CD campaign I was in 5+ years ago had part of a continent sink, and a huge minor diety open up a dimensional gate and begin invading the central continent.  So has some similarities to LOTE campaign 54.  Richer background created than any LOTE campaign, so its important to read through all that "fluff" stuff of history and what not from the perspective of your nation.  And it doesn't hurt to be a creative player (for instance, one chap down here figured green houses might be doable and he R&D and was able to create them as a megalithic to help provide agro to combat the advancing ice somewhat).

And you'all in Oratoa are in the heroic age, and from the stats listed in the opening guide you are probably 2-5 lower in most areas than many Sahul nations.  So being in south Oratoa may mean you're fighting more advanced richer nations being supported by their allies to invade and take over new homes at you'all's expense.  Or if you are a southern Yaggie you may find a bunch of nice new friends in the south who you will help settle on top of your more troublesome neighbors. *grin*  The Yaggies have a very good sneaky player in Zarkhandu (lots of ideas and very crafty but a bit of a mouth) and they appear to have a good strong working religious alliance.  If I could switch to a nice rich Yaggie position I'd be very tempted.  the ability to turn gold into mana is huge, but they do have supposedly major negatives (haven't seen too many happening though from my perspective ^^).

Of course, they did win/lose the last war they fought, but did decently militarily and only got a bit more scuppered by the politics.  Political balance within the empire with multiple factions vying against one another makes it a 3 steps forward two steps back kind of environment.  Oratoa I suspect will be more bloody direct with not central theme and some strong power positions.  I am very interested to see the map up there once it comes out."

Thats the answer I recieved from my initial question before joining. The turnaround is good. 2-3 weeks to prepare orders and 3-4 weeks to process. The Role Playing with my fellow Oratoan's has been great. Lots of personal messages in character and some very excellent storys on the IC storyboard.

Thanks for the reply Jester.

Do you know if it's possible to buy the Rule Book in PDF format?

After I purchased the hard copies of both rule books I sent my receipts to the GM and then he sent the PDF's.

Ahh... that too bad. What with shipping to my area usually doubles the purchase cost... :-/

Well, still haven't decided about it yet.
