Who do you guys use as a server?  I've never once, in the 2 years or so I've been a member, seen the site down for an unacceptable period of time, whereas my site's server (dreamhost) is constantly going down.

Ishmayl, our last server was hosted though a company owned by a  friend of mine. Its not really a commerical hosting company. Our new host is found at www.godaddy.com

And you know they're good, because they advertise on the Onion Radio News

But yeah, except for some recent problems getting here I and Tod have experienced the site is never down, it may have been DNS changes and refreshes that caused our problems though, others were online normally at the time, so it must have been something tied to each user, not the server.

Does godaddy allow the use of IRC?  And how many MySQL databases does it allow you?

Man, I really like this SMF CMS as well, I think I'll need to test it out some on my site.

Ishmayl, Im not sure about IRC.  I pay yearly and got 25 mySQL databases, and strangely the db for these forums does not count towards that limit.  Check out their hosting plans at their website, www.godaddy.com

Yeah, I couldn't find anything about IRC... either way, they seem to be a pretty good hosting option.

So how are you guys transferring all the data between databases?  Or are you just copying-and-pasting all the "good" threads?

We aim to make the transfer of good content as site articles (features on the left menu), there is a lot pending approval (107) and quite a few posted, everythin else will be kept as is in the archive site, where we will be locking posts and hopefully make it into a AtS/archive pathname instead of using PoL.org.

There are some guidelines for this on one of the meta stickies (Old Site content and porting or something like that).
