Midnight Chronicles Finished!

It appears that FFG Studios has finally wrapped up post-production on the Midnight Chronicles movie:
http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/midnight/index.html
Just when I thought that they had abandoned the project all together. I can't wait to hear what kind of distribution deal they were able to land.
Hopefully this means FFG will start to discuss their future plans for Midnight...

I hope we'll have a chance for overseas DVD distribution... And that it will bring new life into the RPG line (a campaign anyone?)

Over at FFGs site (and the Midnight Chronilces site) they just announced that they opened up tonight's screening of the movie to the public. Of course they announced it at 3pm this afternoon, only 5 hours before the movie opened. Had they given us a little more warning, I would have made the 6 hour drive from Milwaukee.
Oh well, perhaps we'll start seeing some reviews and more information about how the movie is going to be distributed.

So will you be making the 6 hour drive to Indy from Milwaukee?

Yep, Thursday at 11pm (the showing I'm going to see) and Saturday at 6pm at the Westin.
I found the schedule on this blog,
The Gamer Dome
, which has it even though FFG isn't bothering to promote it at all.

Did anyone here see it? How was it?
Just curious. I'd be highly willing to pay for a DVD, if I can buy it from my remote corner of this planet - but only if there is at least english subtitle available, as English is not my mother language (I don't want to miss anything).

I found this at GamingReport.com:
Quote from:
GamingReport.com
With my game over and my return trip to the hotel behind me, I set out to get one more trip to the dealers room, looked around at some of the huge gaming rooms and then planned to go to the
Midnight Chronicles
movie premier. This is a film produced by Fantasy Flight Productions, the movie branch of FFG, based on the Midnight role playing game. This movie has been apparently in the works for years, and FFG has finally put it together and plans to pitch it to Sci-Fi or Spike to be used as a pilot for a new series.
The movie was 2 hours. Without saying too much because the movie itself deserves a separate review, the show has lot of potential but I think they tried to pack in too much story in 2 hours without a lot of background. I found myself saying … “Please do not introduce more characters….” because I was getting confused as to who was who.
FFG was hosting a party at Jillians afterwards, and all press and people that saw the movie were invited, but I passed as I had some writing to do and wanted to watch the Panthers preseason game. That ended my first day at GenCon.

In the GamingReport writeup the writer makes mention of a review... but I couldn't seem to find it. I'm guessing he hasn't posted/written it yet.
I did find this website:
http://bennyweinbeck.com/Happenings/D05B9DD0-CA99-44DD-837C-896A2D84F157.html
It's the composer for the Midnight Chronicles score. If you click on the 'Listen' link, you'll find a sample called Theros Obsidia. Nice little sample from the movie.

I started a thread over at EnWorld regarding the screenings at GenCon and I got a reply from a poster there. He had some nice tidbits (nothing too revealing, and not worth a spoiler warning in any event) to say about the movie/TV Pilot.
Here's the link if you're interested:

I wish I could have Wil- I would have loved to play in another of your Midnight games on top of watching the screenings of the Midnight movie. You DM'd a game for myself and a friend a few years back (it also included Harrowed IIRC). That was a good time.

That's very interesting. I wish FFG manage to sell it to a "quality" channel, and that it allows them to revive the Midnight line...

Agreed Arnon- it would be nice if they would at least keep their fans of the product line more in the loop as we would be the ones getting out the word...
Anyway, I found this website that makes mention of a new version of the midnight-chronicles website going live in a couple of weeks (it was posted last week):
http://www.videocopilot.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=3006&p=18647
It also has a different version of the trailer than I have seen before.

Nice trailer!
Much better than the last one on FFG's official site!!
Anyway, it looks like Mr Christian T. Petersen himself will be a special guest at our best Italian convention: Lucca Comics & Games (
http://www.luccacomicsandgames.com/
)
If I manage to go, I will kill people if needed to ask him what's the future of Midnight ... and of the movie.
Of course I'll keep you guys updated first-hand

Very nice trailer... Let's cross fingers and hope FFG manages to sell it to a network. Perhaps it will be a real TV show in the end? And raise enough interest to once again produce RPG supplements

I haven't been to the boards in a while, but I'm still an avid fan. Myself and a few friends did get to see the screening at GenCon.
After reading what I wrote, I want to say that this is just the opinion of me and some friends. We were really looking forward to this, but it fell short. I do recommend that everyone watch this at least once. If they ever release it on DVD I would probably purchase it, but just to have for my Midnight collection. Sadly, I do not think I would watch it again.
The showing gathered a decent size crowd. When it was time to begin, someone important from FFG (I'm really bad with names) introduced himself, talked for just a few minutes about how they've been pitching this for a while and have not yet found a home for it - but they had not given up yet. Someone asked if it would be available on DVD for the hardcore fans, if it was never picked-up by a station. He (the FFG guy) looked as if this was something that was never brought to his attention before. After stumbling for a bit, he gave the expected answer of "That's something we'll definitely look into." This intro by him was only about 5 minutes, did not really include a question and answer session. He stated "I know why you came, and it wasn't to see me." With that, we started the movie.
Perhaps my friends and I had hyped it up to much, or perhaps we were just tired from the day of GenCon. We knew there was a budget, and we were not expecting spectacular effects. A previous post quoted someone saying there were too many characters. I don't know if there were too many, so much as the story bounced amongst all of them so much that you didn't get to know (or care) a lot about any of them. The only character everyone enjoyed was the Mercenary working for the Legate. He was sarcastic, gawdy, and fun to watch.
The plotlines include:
Some past romance between a boy (reminded me a lot of whiny Luke from SW: A New Hope) and the girl/woman that ran away to join the resistance. ...ok, we need a romance, sure. Shortly after she departs again, we do not see the boy until about 20 minutes from the end. At the end, while the camera is following the boy, the narrator speaks of "...the chosen one." Huh? The kid falls down a well and breaks the bow of an Elven Master. Ok, ok, we need a whiney character that we can see grow into a man. Moving on...
The ex-legate: There is a legate that left the order, and is psuedo-being tracked by the Main legate. All legates have the blackened symbol of Izrador tattoo'd on their arms. The ex-legate still has that symbol, but it's white/pink - he tried to remove it somehow. The Legate mentions how you can never leave the shadow, he is always with you.
The Legate - at the end of the movie, he is attacked by some bestial looking demon that the "good guys" release. No real information about it that I can recall. The Legate takes it out with some energy release, then falls into a trembling coma. (Some think the "chosen one" refers to him.)
The Legate has a woman with him as well. I honestly don't remember anything about her character other than taunting the Mercenary, but the Merc usually got the last word in. Hehehe.
Mercenary - as I said, his character was the most interesting and fun to watch. At one point the woman above asks the Legate why he keeps the Merc around, and he states that the Merc has an uncanny ability to track people.
There's 1 elf in the movie, and he's seen with the resistance chick and the ex-legate. Nothing very remarkable.
There's also some other female/outsider that you see a few times. They don't give you much about her, other than she's an assassin. I think she is working for the Legate...but at the end she kills someone that gave info on the resistance to the Legate.
I apologize if this is a little confusing - but that's the feeling we had when we left. Actually, when everyone left the small room in the screening there was no cheering. No extatic running/summersaults/etc. Most just shambled out, quietly chatting with their friends.
It was mostly 2 hours of story, after which we didn't have a firm idea about what just occurred in the movie. I don't want to sound like I'm slamming the movie, because I'm not. I just wanted it to be more. There was no mention/show of Heroic Paths. Maybe this was to be saved for later, maybe it *was* referenced in terms of the Merc's ability to track, or maybe they decided it wasn't fit for the movie.
They have scenes of villages with orcs patrolling, but overall it didn't feel opressed. Sure, there's a scene where the villagers are paying tribute, and they toss a basket or something over because it wasn't enough. But when the villagers are walking around, they don't seem cowed by the orcs. At least we didn't feel that way.
I probably missed some characters, and maybe I just missed more plotlines and explanations - at least that's what I'm hoping. Overall - it was like a Cheesy Puff. Big (2 hours), but after taking it in, there's only a small amount of actual substance.
I'll try to pop back here on and off, so feel free to post any questions and I'll try to answer what I can. I was trying to give a general overview and feel w/o giving anything important away.
